Tough Cookie

Review

I would like to share a new children’s book Tough Cookie. I received a copy of in exchange for this review. The book is written by Edward Hemingway.

As an adult I’m sure there are adults out there who would like to have there own copy of  Tough Cookie. If these adults are like me Tough Cookie will remind them of The Gingerbread Man. Which has given me a idea for my grandson and his parents for Christmas. Because I want to instill a love of reading into Elijah life.

I plan on purchasing a copy of Tough Cookie A Christmas Story along with a Sugar Cookie Mix and sprinkles to decorate the cookies with. Along with a copy of the Gingerbread Man and Pajamas for Elijah and Leslie with Apple Juice.

They can get Toby to come into the kitchen to sit down on Christmas Eve and decorate cookies for    Santa Clause while reading the Gingerbread Man and Tough Cookie. I will have a disposable camera for them to take pictures and arts and crafts so they can draw pictures of what they did.

I’m Praying Leslie will invite Charlie and I over to read these books with them. Then we could help them decorate Cookies. If not that is OK as Charlie and I have our own copy of Tough Cookie. We can start our own traditions in our home and invite my niece Lily and nephew Jason over to read stories and decorate cookies.

I asked Charlie to thumb through Tough Cookie this morning even though I want to give the book to Charlie for Christmas, Then I could see what Charlie liked or disliked. Charlie let me know he liked the story line because Tough Cookie teaches us a lesson. Which shows we all do not have to be the same to be liked. We just have to think outside the box.

When a cookie discovers he does NOT taste delicious, he has to find a new identity in this clever picture book twist on a holiday classic.

Once upon a time, while Fox was visiting the land of Holiday Treats, a little Cookie—still warm from the bakery oven—burst out the front door looking sweet and ready to be devoured. But, as it turns out, Cookie is not as fast as he thinks and when Fox finally catches him, they’re both in for a big surprise: Sugar Cookie does not taste delicious—and he’s certainly not fit to be eaten. What’s an unsavory cookie to do? Is there another option for this not-so-sweet treat?

This inventive story celebrates the joy of being accepted for who we are.

  1. I just got a copy of this book at my local indie and it’s so charming! I love the illustrations and there’s an unexpected twist from the Gingerbread Man storyline I was expecting. And recipes! (If I don’t keep it myself, I will pair it with my book Bagel In Love since both have bakery/food humor. Another fun food humor book is Mission Defrostable, if you’re looking for gift ideas. Wink.)
