You might be thinking you’ve done enough to childproof your home. You did your best to care for the living room, kitchen, laundry, and other spaces. But the chances are that you might have missed the bedroom.
While you might be overconfident about your child’s safety, there are some things that you might not be able to point out when childproofing the bedroom. So, let’s start with what you might not be doing right.
What might you be doing wrong?
Did you know that balloons can be pretty toxic for children under the age of 8 years? There are many instances where balloons were the reason for many children’s choking deaths. So, you need to keep them out of their reach.
Now, what about crayons? Even your minor child can hold one or two crayons. And they can be quite enough to choke on. While you must always supervise your child when they use art supplies, you must always keep them away in child-resistant packaging when not in use. You can use the packaging to secure your medicines lying in the bedroom. If you think using a container will help you with that, you might be wrong. Also, ensure that you never call your medicine “candy.”
Moreover, you must secure those porcelain piggy banks as well. Remember, your child can climb up the stairs or dresser to grab it. Your child can get a cut in an attempt to grab one. Also, coins can block your child’s airway. So, keep them away from your toddlers. Further, make sure to use drawer stoppers to avoid any injuries.
What do you think you are already doing right?
You have set up your child’s crib safely. But did you lower the mattresses? Also, make sure you are careful with those stuffed animals. They could also cause suffocation. Also, if your crib has a drop side, make sure to take care of it.
Further, there must be a window guard, especially if your window is low and has a window seat. Also, take care of window blinds. Your child can get caught in its looped cord. So, use cordless blinds instead.
If you have a room with an attached washroom, you might not see it as a hazard now. But water in the toilet and the lid can be dangerous for your child. Always keep your toilet lids down. Further, you can secure them by placing a lid lock.
Wrapping up
Your child is your responsibility. Of course, you know that. But you need to understand that you can’t be 100% sure about childproofing your home. For instance, did you cover the electrical sockets in your bedroom? You need to protect them from all such potential hazards to avoid any possible accidents.
Also, your baby is growing fast. First, it was a rollover, then moving the floor, and then so on. So, make sure to keep changing the safety precautions as they age. You must plan and have all the items you need and avoid any accidents.
Thank you,
