Check Mate! The Wonderful of Chess

The Mommies Reviews

Just recently Charlie has been asking to learn to speak Spanish and I’ve been looking for a class for our family to take. In the past Charlie wanted to learn to play Chess which is grandfather and his Uncle Mike play. With me not knowing how and David not too sure we hadn’t been able to help Charlie learn which would be a perfect addition to our Homeschool Lessons.

I have a question for you do you play Chess? If so, would you like to teach Charlie how to play Chess? If not, we might check out our local Libraries and see if there hosting Chess Class for teens. In the meantime, we have Check Mate! The Wonderful of Chess by John Foley which I received a copy of in exchange for this review. Which Charlie will be reading in our Reading Class. Then we can use what we learn to play Chess n our PE Class.

Having a copy of Check Mate The Wonderful World of Chess! has given me a gift to get Charlie for either his Birthday or as a Christmas Gift David and Charlie can use together. Can you guess what it is? No, you can’t. I was thinking of purchasing them a Chess Set. If you know anything about chess, would you like to go with me, so I get the right Chess set for a beginner.

Inside Check Mate The Wonderful World of Chess! you will find out “how to play’, facts and tips & stats.” The book is broken down into chapters so we can read one or two a day and then practice what we learned each day until the end of the book when we’re playing a real game of chess. Although, we may not be ready for any tournaments.

I like that the Author has included advance tips for us including reminding us to play, play play then we will improve our chess game. The Author even included a list of champions which Charlie can study in our Homeschool this year. Charlie and I can’t wait to set up our chess board using the directions in the book.

I learned playing chess could be a math class when homeschooling our students. Did you know that? We learned about Mini Games like Fox & Hound one of our favorite movies and no, you cannot watch a movie when playing chess because it would be distracting. The Author shared what all the pieces are which was nice to learn.

Above is just a sampling of what you will find inside Check Mate! the Wonderful World of Chess! which I didn’t want to share with you because I believe you should pick up your own copy of the book so you can your friends and family can learn more about chess. Then you can come and play with Charlie.
