Charlie and Our Back to School Party

Events

Each year I try and do something different for Charlie at the end of school and the beginning of school. I want to make each school year memorable. This Summer I planned to take Charlie on a mini vacation only it didn’t happen. But we were still able to have a “Back to School Party” thank a friend of ours. I talked to a friend of mine and Davids name Ed Lackey as he also knew Charlie had been asking to go camping for over two years. Knowing David it seemed like Charlie wasn’t going to take Charlie camping, So Ed offered Charlie and me his yard to camp out.

David said he didn’t want to camp out with us in someone’s backyard, so Charlie and I got out things ready and headed down to Eds. Charlie and I left and went to set up the tent and behold we could get out camp set up David came walking in and let us know he was going to camp out with us as he was afraid someone might bother us in the night.

Halfway through the night, it started to rain which didn’t bother Charlie or I. We just slept through the rain, and we made it outside all night long. As for David he wanted to leave early but went ahead and remained with us. I was so proud of David for doing this with Charlie as it is something Charlie will always remember.

If you’re looking to make memories with your children and money is an issue like in our case you can still find things to do with the kids. You will have a lot of fun because Charlie and I have even set the tent up in our home and camped out in it.

I would like to thank Ed as he loaned us his Air Mattress to use inside the tent and I can’t wait to get an air mattress for Charlie’s shelter as it made sleeping on the ground so much more comfortable. Ed also lets us use his Intex air pump to air up the air mattress with, and it didn’t take any time at all  with the air pump.  I cant wait to order one for Charlies tent.

Once the tent was up, we used Ed’s fire pit and cooked Hot Dogs and Smores. Cooking over the Fire Pit, they were a lot of fun and cooking this way reminded me of my childhood. Neither Charlie or I had ever roasted marshmallows before so it was a lot of fun. I do not like marshmallows so I didn’t eat them or the Smores although David and Charlie did and they loved them and can’t wait to make them again.

Did you know there are chocolate and caramel flavored marshmallows and they roasted them as well? Everyone thought they were delicious and enjoyed them a lot. Next time David wants to bring some Strawberries to eat with the Smores.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
