Charlie wanted to me to share a children\s book we received to review. Charlie has been reading in his Homeschool Reading Class this week .Bunso Meets a Mumu (Bunso Meets…, 1) Written & Illustrated by Rev Valdez.
Charlie said the cover of the book being black with white writing like graffiti art reminds him of a chalkboard i school with his name on lighted paper in neat colors at the top of the post Charle asked the same question that is written on the book “what is a Mumu? I couldn’t answer Charlie because I didn’t know. Do you know what a Mumu is?
We sat down this morning while David was at work and Charlie read the story to me. Once he finished Charlie let me know David would like this story as well. Charlie added it to his stack of books to share with the students he is reading to as part of his Home Economics Class. Then we will add the book to our Homeschool Library so we can share the book with my niece Lily and my nephew Jason the next time they visit.
I love how the Author included a glossary which we can refer back to when reading the story. The words the Author used will make great spelling words for Charlie this week. We even learned about a dish called Dinuguan (Din-new-gwan) which is a stew and even though I like stew I will pass on this one because it has Pork Blood in it. How about you. Would you like some of this Stew?
Bunso is the main character and (Ate Ah-tay) likes to tell him scary stories about Mum who likes to punish kids who misbehaves by sucking the fun out of everything. Everyone keeps telling Busno no, he can’t do this or that when Ate tells him he must have been very bad. Bunso decides to study his enemy t figure out how to deal with him.
Bunso ask his dad what a Mumu is and he finds out its a Mad Cow. I asked my mom, and she said a Mum was Vampire Bat. Then I asked Kuya and he said a monster with a bajilion teeth! Then Bunso studies the dramas his mom watches. After all that research he has created battle-ready Armour. Do you think it will work?
I imagine battling the Mumu. I win but then I hear a noise. The Mumu is crying, Bunso feels sorry for him. I take a peek he doesn’t see scary. Mum shares his life story with Bunso. I don’t want to spoil the ending for you so to find out what happens you will need to pick up a copy of Bunso Meets a Mumu and share this story with all of your friends and family.
I love how through .Bunso Meets a Mumu we learn about the Philippines which Charlie and I can study this year. We also learn about meeting someone different than us and making a friend. Although sometime sour choices are the best. Once we finished the book Charlie said all children of all ages would enjoy the story just as their parents will.
