Bullying can hit home when you’re not expecting it

Bullying can hit home when you’re not expecting it. So this morning, I have a question for you “How can another person hurt a child”?

Today I would like to talk to you about an incident that happened in our complex over the weekend with Charlie and his friend Abdon. Charlie and Abdon was playing outside our home where we live in a small trailer complex. No, it isn’t a redneck place or white trash as people think most trailer parks are.

Our trailer park has been here for years, and the trailers that have come up for rent like ours are all owned by one man Tommy, who makes sure and takes care of them. I like it as we are close to two parks and the school Charlie attends. Charlie can walk back and forth to both and I can see when he gets to where he is going. Although,  I still take him as I like the time we have together.

On Saturday Charlie asked to go to his friend Damion’s so I walked him over to his house because here there are so many children that we all walk them to each other houses and they play for hours. Charlie and Damion wanted to come back home to get some other toys so Roma Damion’s grandmother let Damion’s older brother Tye walk them home.

On the way here they ran into Abdon who was shaking and very upset. Abdon is only 13 and was coming back from the park when three older guys who were most likely in their early twenties walked up to Abdon and pulled a knife on him and took his scooter. They then walked on down the road and dropped it in the grass. Now, these are guys that don’t live in our complex and why they did this to Aiden I have no clue. I am just glad they didn’t hurt him or Tye, Charlie, and Damion while they were outside.

My question is what is this world coming to and how can we fix our society????

Charlie saw that his friend was upset and asked what happened and came inside to let me know. I called the police, but they haven’t found the young men even though we gave them descriptions of the men and the boys told them where they lived. Because by the time I had gotten outside they had disappeared.

With this happening, I am too afraid to let Charlie outside to play as I am scared these guys will come back and do something to Charlie.

If this had happened to your children how would you feel and what would you have done?

Charlie has even had trouble sleeping since it has happened and today we have a meeting with the counselor, so they know what happened and can make other parents aware of these men as I would hate for something to happen to another child or even an adult. Because in this world even though I hate to say it no, one is safe and that is sad. As it isn’t the way the Lord would want us to live.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie, and David Cates
