I would like to introduce you to the children’s book, Broadway Baby by Russell Miller with Jennifer Proffer which I received a copy of in exchange for this review.
Homeschooling and Blogging has opened up many doors for my family including visits to Plays at local Theaters, the Opra and Museums as well as many films which I didn’t have the opportunity to share with Suzzane. Other than movies which she and I loved and would attend any chance we got.
Instead I take the opportunity to take David and Charlie with me and sometimes friends or family. Which is why I couldn’t wait to sit down and read Broadway Baby with my niece Lily who is going to Bass Hall this morning with her class from school. If you must know I am a tad bit jealous as I’ve always wanted to visit there and one day I will.
In the meantime, I asked Charlie to read Broadway Baby with me. Before we began reading the book Charlie and I had fun discussing the cover and the hat the young man had in his hand which Charlie would like to have. Then we discussed the stick or cane he was carrying which Charlie says they used to use in old fashioned movies when they would Tap Dance which got Charlie up and moving as he showed me some of the dance movies, we were able to find on YouTube,
I love how having a copy of Broadway Baby opened up new lessons for Charlie and I to study in homeschool this week. I love how the book takes place in New York City which my daughter had the opportunity to visit. Allowing me to share stories of her trip with Charlie allowing him to get a glimpse into his sister’s lives.
There where words in Broadway Baby Charlie wasn’t sure about which he looked up in the dictionary and will be on this week’s spelling test. Allowing us to turn a quite inspiring children’s book written by a New York and West End Stage Producer into a learning tool. What more would you want from a children’s book?
I believe this is the perfect story for children from 6 up but don’t let that stop you from reading the story to younger children as well as adults who enjoy the Theater. If you know a drama teacher Broadway Baby would be the perfect Gift for them as well as schools and librarians should keep this book on their shelves at all times.
