August 25 National Banana Split Day #NationalBananaSplitDay

The Mommies Reviews

I would like to invite you to celebrate August 25th which is National Banana Split Day #NationalBananaSplitDay with my family. We just had a new Braum’s open up close to us and we can go get a Banana Split or at least you and David can. Charlie and I will have ice Cream with you just no Banana Split because neither of us like Bananas

You should go Bananas on August 2th because it’s National Banana Split Day! Take the opportunity today to give your taste buds the thrill of Ice Cream and Chocolate Syrup covering a fresh Banana topped with Nuts, a Cherry and don’t forget the Whipped Cream.

Did you know the original Banana Split wasn’t created in an Ice Cream Parlor but in a Pharmacy in 1904.  Banana Splits were the brainchild of David Evans Strickler, a pharmacist’s apprentice who enjoyed experimenting with new Soda Fountain Sundaes in his free time.

The Soda Fountain Sundaes were so popular with the college crowd that students willingly paid 10 cents,  double the price of a normal Sundae. Try a Banana Split today and you’ll understand why this dessert is a classic!

National Banana Split Day Activities

  1. The best thing you can do to celebrate a Banana Split is to enjoy the Banana Split with friends. Grab some spoons and battle your way to the last Fudgy, Banana-filled bite!
  2. Use National Banana Split Day to change up your Banana Split with creative ways to cook the Bananas. Fry the Bananas up and dust them with Cinnamon and Sugar, caramelize them like Bananas Foster, freeze the Bananas and dip them in Chocolate. You’ll go Bananas for these new flavor combinations!
  3. Gather all the tasty ingredients you want in your Banana Split and throw them in a blender. In seconds, you’ll blend your way to a frosty treat that’s good until the last drop!

Why PEOPLE Love National Banana Split Day

  1. Banana Splits are usually served with 3 scoops of Ice Cream, Fudge, Whipped Cream, a Banana split in half, and a Cherry, a Banana Split is the perfect family-style dessert.
  2. You have so many choices when having a Banana Split just choose your Ice Cream flavors and toppings. Drizzle different Chocolates on top and slice your Bananas in different ways. Banana Splits offers endless flavor combos so you can adapt Banana Splits to your own, unique taste.
  3. For decades, Banana Splits have been a family favorite in Ice Cream Parlors and Soda Fountains across America. Maybe it’s because Banana Splits rekindle that childhood nostalgia, helping us find the joy in simple, old-fashioned things like Ice Cream, Fudge, and Bananas.

Recipe for a Banana Split

  • 1 medium banana*
  • 1 scoop vanilla ice cream
  • 1 scoop chocolate ice cream
  • 1 scoop strawberry ice cream
  • 2 Tablespoons pineapple topping (or caramel sauce)
  • 2 Tablespoons chocolate sauce or hot fudge
  • 2 Tablespoons strawberry topping
  • Whipped cream
  • Rainbow sprinkles
  • Chopped peanuts or wet walnuts
  • 3 Maraschino cherries

Instructions

  1. Split The Banana. To start, split the banana lengthwise (the long way). I find this is easiest if I set the banana down on a cutting board and use a knife to cut sideways, rather than trying to hold it in my hands. Place the split banana into your ice cream dish or on a plate.
  2. Scoop The Ice Cream. Next, add vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry scoops of ice cream on top of the split banana.
  3. Add Sauces. Top the vanilla ice cream with pineapple topping, the chocolate ice cream with chocolate sauce or hot fudge, and the strawberry ice cream with strawberry topping.
  4. Finish With Toppings. Add swirls of whipped cream, sprinkles, nuts, and maraschino cherries for garnish, or add your favorite toppings. (I like to add a swirl of whipped cream and a maraschino cherry on top of each scoop of ice cream for a classic look.)

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
