When we compare the old and the new version of the Brookstone’s cat ear headphones we can easily say that there is a great improvement on all levels. In the following article we will go through some of the new features of the new and improved Brookstone cat ear headphones.
If you choose to purchase the original Brookstone headphones you can easily get them for around $140. We can say that the price is OK if you consider the comfort, quality and all the improvements compared to the old version. There is also a one year warranty which can be prolonged to three years if you want. However, if the price is too high there are similar cat ear headphones from other manufacturers where the price range varies from $20 to $80. It’s up to you which one you will choose to buy.
The new or the old version – what was improved?
We had the chance to test out the new version and we can say that they work perfectly well even after a few months of extensive use. The thing we didn’t like in the old version was the LED light which was limited to just one color. The new wireless version offers an array of eight different colors to choose from. It’s just amazing and makes it easy to match the headphones with your outfit. All you have to do is to tap the color button and you are good to go.
Choosing the right color for the day is nice but now it gets even better. There are several modes to choose from. The Solid mode where the selected color intensity doesn’t change, to the Breathing, Beat or Strobe mode where the color flashes slowly, or follows the beats of the song you are listening to, or it just flashes rapidly. There is also a so called Transition mode where the color changes after a few seconds.
Another great thing in the new version is the Bluetooth connectivity feature. Getting rid of all the wires is a huge advancement. It is very easy to pair them up with all your devices. A good feature is that they will connect automatically to the latest device they were paired to, so in case you want to switch devices, make sure to turn off the one you used last time first.
If you need to make phone calls there is a built in in-line microphone. Of course, these headphones will never be the same like some of the major gaming headphones on the market but they will do the job.
If we take a quick look at the options we like the most in the new version we have to say that these are the listening modes. You can listen to your music through the ear cups or through the speakers. But you can also listen to your music trough both the ear cups and the speakers at the same time which makes your music sharing experience even better.
The carry case is good enough and it comes with a useful wrist wrap. However, don’t think you can play with it like it was a purse. Chances are that the wrist wrap will break and eventually damage the headphones. Too bad they didn’t make it more durable.
It will take some time to get used to the buttons on the headphones. It would be best to memorize the buttons as soon as possible or you would have to remove the headphones whenever you want to perform a specific action. There are six buttons and they are grouped by their function so memorizing them won’t be too difficult.
When you take everything into consideration – the possibility to change the colors, the fact that they are wireless now, the available listening modes, the new wireless cat ear headphones are way better than the old version. Another great thing is the battery life which will let you use these headphones for up to five hours before the battery drains completely.
