Today is Friday April 5 National Deep Dish Pizza Day #DeepDishPizzaDay. Usually my family goes out to dinner on Thursday nights or David brings dinner home for Charlie and I. This week we didn’t do either one. Since I didn’t go to breakfast with my friend Debbie this morning and Charlie’s friend Bradely is going home I asked David if we could go out to dinner this evening as a family.
When David calls this morning from work I’m going to let him know its Deep Dish Pizza Day and because Charlie and David both love Pizza they may want to have Pizza for dinner. Which means we could eat at home but I want to get out of the house for a bit and would much prefer a different meal but since David usually doesn’t pick where we eat and he loves Pizza as much as Charlie does I may suggest going to Pizza Hut. Would you like to come to dinner with us? Before you ask if I choose to have Pizza with them its going to be Deep Dish Meat Lovers Pizza if I have my way. What is your favorite Pizza?
I would like to ask you a question is there a single food more universally beloved that is also so incredibly divisive than Pizza? The most contentious of these divisions comes between New Yorkers and their New York-style slices and Chicagoans and their deep dish Pies. Deep dish Pizza was invented in the Windy City in 1943 by Ike Sewell, founder of Uno’s Pizzeria.
Deep Dish Pizza became so popular that it spun into a huge national chain and inspired dozens upon dozens of other deep dish Pizzerias in major Cities to open up across the world. Graba a plate and a napkin along with a fork and knife and celebrate National Deep Dish Pizza Day today with your friends and family.
NATIONAL DEEP DISH PIZZA DAY ACTIVITIES
- I would like to let you know there is a lot more to love about the Windy City than their Pizza. Why not use the holiday as an excuse to travel to the City famous for Deep Dish Pizza?
- If you don’t live in Chicago visit a Uno’s if there is one in your City. The Uno’s I knew about in Fort Worth, Texas closed. Although here are more than 130 locations of Uno’s Pizzeria and Grill throughout the Country in 21 different States, and expanded as far as South Korea and Saudi Arabia!
- if we was staying home I would have Charlie make a Dish Deep Pizza in his Homeschool Cooking Class but I would have to remind you making a Deep Dish Pish isn’t as simple as making a regular Pizza, but the hard work will make it that much more rewarding, right?
WHY PEOPLE LOVE NATIONAL DEEP DISH PIZZA DAY
- It’s very rare to have a bad slice of Pizza, or at least we’ve all had that thought unless there was more Cheese or Sausage.
- A deep dish Pizza has more of everything: more sauce, more Cheese, more Veggies, and more Meat.
- A traditional deep dish crust is considerably more buttery than a regular Pizza crust.
- Deep Dish Pizza isn’t as simple as just having more toppings there’s some serious anatomy at play, too. You have to make sure that all of the ingredients cook at a similar speed, and are done before the crust burns. Which is why you should put cheese on the bottom. Then the meat. Top it off with a protective layer of Tomato Sauce.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
