David was off this morning and he asked me if I wanted to go get Donuts before we tackled our storage building but I choose a sit-down breakfast at The Cafe a restaurant that had recently re-opened after being sold. Although if I had knew April 24 National Pigs in a Blanket Day #NationalPigBlanketDay I would have opted for Pigs In a Blanket and Donuts at our local Donut store.
David and Charlie love them. How about you. Do you like Pigs in a Blanket and do you eat these for Breakfast or do you make them with Little Smokies and Croissants for dinner and dip them in Mustard and why. Do you remember the first time you had Pigs in a Blanket? For me it was for lunch at my Elementary School.
If the phrase “Pigs in a Blanket” conjures up images of Piglets swaddled in warm fluffy blankets you are definitely not a foodie because foodies know National Pigs in a Blanket Day on April 24 is a holiday celebrating Pork Sausage or Wienies aka Hotdogs cooked in Pastry.
I have a question for you. Do you know who we should thank for Pigs in a Blanket? I will tell you and it’s Betty Crocker, whose cookbooks decorated every post-war kitchen exposing young impressionable minds to the culinary delight Pigs in a Blanket. In 1957 she published Betty Crocker’s Cooking for Kids, with the first simple recipe for the taste treat, and the rest is history!
From a child’s first flour-smudged attempts at cooking to chic cocktail party fare, and from fancy pastry crust to pre-made Biscuits in a tube, Pigs in a Blanket are the ubiquitous snack for every occasion. Whether it’s a plain Hotdog or a fancy Sausage wrapped in your favorite Dough, gather your friends and share memories of the first time you had a Pig in a Blanket.

- Take a moment to call, or better yet write a note to the one you think of first when you think of eating Pigs in a Blanket. - Throw a do-it-yourself party and go purchase all the ingredients for all the different recipes you can think of which you can use to make Pigs In a Blanket including Hot Dogs, savory Sausage, breakfast links, Mini Smokies and vegetables including Asparagus or baby Carrots for your vegetarian friends. Mak Pancakes or purchase Puff Pastry, soft tacos, wonton wrappers, Croissants or Biscuits. Then invite your friends over.
- Fancy pigsMake it a candlelit dinner and surprise your guests with this unusual entree.
