I knew exactly the recipe I wanted to share in the A to Z Blog Challenge Letter F Flan. The recipe would be for Flan. Before I share the recipe with you through I would like to let you know we see Flan all the time in Mexican restaurants. Although I haven’t personally tried Flan.
As far as I know David hasn’t tried Flan and neither has Charlie. So I”m sure your wondering why I would chose to share a recipe for something my family hasn’t ever tried.
The reason is making Flan together would allow us all to cook a new recipe together spending time together and creating new memories. Now, I would like to know if you have ever eaten Flan and if so what did you think about it and why? Have you ever made Flan?
Flan
Ingredients
1/2 cup sugar
3 eggs, slightly beaten
$1/3 cup sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 can (12 ounces) evaporated milk (1 2/3 cups)
Steps
- 1Heat oven to 350°F. Heat 1/2 cup sugar in heavy 1-quart saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly, until melted and golden brown. Divide sugar syrup among four 6-ounce custard cups; tilt cups to coat bottoms. Allow syrup to harden in cups about 5 minutes.
- 2Mix remaining ingredients; pour into custard cups. Place cups in square pan, 9x9x2 inches, on oven rack. Pour very hot water into pan to within 1/2 inch of tops of cups.
- 3Bake 40 to 50 minutes or until knife inserted halfway between center and edge comes out clean. Immediately remove from water. Unmold and serve warm, or refrigerate up to 8 hours and unmold at serving time.
I have a project for Charlie on the day we make our Flan and I want Charlie to find a Latin American Bakery where we can purchase cookies to serve with our Flan.
Did you know Custard mixtures like Flan are cooked with water surrounding them. Flan needs gentle heat to keep from curdling.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
