I would like to share a new cookbook which I can’t wait to share with Charlie and David. This new cookbook is for Once Upon a Rind in Hollywood: 50 Movie-Themed Cheese Platters and Snack Boards for Film Fanatics. I received a hard back copy of Once Upon a Rind in Hollywood: 50 Movie-Themed Cheese Platters and Snack Boards for Film Fanatics in exchange for this review.
Anyone who knows me knows I love movies. Along with food. If you were to ask me which one I like the best. I believe food would come in first. How about you? Thanks to this new cookbook Once Upon a Rind in Hollywood: 50 Movie-Themed Cheese Platters and Snack Boards for Film Fanatics I don’t have to choose. Thanks to this cookbook I can combine my love of movies and food to share with my friends and family. If you haven’t seen this new one of a kind cookbook I hope you check Once Upon a Rind in Hollywood: 50 Movie-Themed Cheese Platters and Snack Boards for Film Fanatic out as soon as possible.
Inside this cookbook are Cheese Platters Charlie can put together for our #FamilyMovieNights in his #Homeschool Cooking Class. The fun part of the cookbook is we will be able to watch movies like Dirty Dancing which is one of mine and Suzzie’s favorite movie. Then in Charlie’s Homeschool Cooking Class Charlie can prepare “Nobody Puts Babybel in A Corner”.
“Nobody Puts Babybel in A Corner will allow us to try foods we haven’t had before which consists of Lox and Capers. I must tell you I’m not sure my family will like Lox and Capers. Which we wouldn’t know unless we try them. Now, I would like to ask you a question. Would you like to join us for “Nobody Puts Babybel in A Corner”? If so have you had Lox and Capers? What did you think of Lox and Capers? Why?
I love how before we begin cooking the Author included a introduction in the cookbook explaining what a Snack Board is. For a lesson in our Homeschool Charlie can come up with a theme and create his own Snack Board. We can invite people to try Charlie’s creation letting us know what they liked best about the snack board and why.
I was impressed to find a recipe for the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Did you know Breakfast at Tiffany’s was my daughter Suzzane’s favorite movie. As well as my Uncle Chuck. Having this meal prepared would allow us to celebrate their lives while watching Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Can you believe I haven’t had the opportunity to see Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Have you watched this movie if so what did you like about Breakfast At Tiffany’s? What about Audrey Hepburn’s character in the movie?
When I first looked through the cookbook I thought Once Upon a Rind in Hollywood: 50 Movie-Themed Cheese Platters and Snack Boards for Film Fanatics was geared more toward women. Most of the movies were Classic Movies or Romances. When low and behold I came across Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory. Did you know this is David’s all-time favorite movie. Creating Willy Wonka and The Cheesecake Factory is the perfect gift to create for David for our upcoming Wedding Anniversary.
Not only that the Author included Feta & Furious based on The Fast & Furious Movies. Another favorite movie not only of David, Charlie and I but Suzzane. My sister and her family also enjoy this series of movies. With the new movie Fast X coming out in March I could prepare this board to take to my mother in laws. Then I could host a Fast & Furious movie night with my mother and father n law before we take David Sr. to see the Fast X. Would you like to join us?
For those of us who are obsessed with Mobsters and bad guys you should check out The Goudfather from The Godfather. The Godfather is a movie Charlie hasn’t had the opportunity to watch. Did you know the Godfather is a film Suzzane enjoyed. How about you. Do you like the Godfather? If so, why? There is even a section on Horror movies which I pass on but would bring Charlie and David closer together.
During Christmas my family could put together the snack board for The Nightmare Before Characterize based on the movies The Nightmare Before Christmas. Once we finish putting together the snack board we could invite my sister Debbie and her family including my niece Alyssa. My nephew David with my niece Lily and my nephew Jason because The Nightmare Before Christmas is Alyssa’s favorite movie and a Christmas movie my family would watch with her and her family. Would you like to join us?
If you like the Rocky Horror Picture Show, then you can create The Roquefort Horror Picture Show. If you haven’t seen this movie, you will not want to watch the film in front of kids because of the SEXUAL CONTENT. Not only that you would be considered a Virgin. Before the movie begins you would need to put a V on your forehead and hunt for the props including a lighter you will see used in the movie. David took me and my stepson Travis to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show live. Travis and I didn’t know about putting a V on our forehead or needing props. Now that I know this Dav id and I plan on going back to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show for a Date Night/ Kid Free event. Would you like to go with us?
If you have trouble when measuring out ingredients, and you need to prepare these recipes they’ve included conversions in the back of the cookbook which you should print out because you can use these conversions with other recipes. If you’re in a hurry and want to see if a movie is included in the cookbook, take a look through the index.

Whether you’re streaming an AFI classic or classically bad movie, munchies are a must-have. With gorgeous flat-lay photography for every movie-themed board, Once Upon a Rind in Hollywood outlines what you need to create cheesy cinematic pairings (and even cheesier puns) like:
- May the Fromage Be with You (Star Wars)
- Draw Me Like One of Your French Gruyères (Titanic)
- I’ll Harvarti What She’s Having (When Harry Met Sally)
- Here’s Looking at You, Curd (Casablanca)
- Brie-king Dawn (Twilight)
- Roquefort Horror Picture Show (Rocky Horror Picture Show) and many more!
“If you love movies and you love cheese, this is the book for you,” says food photographer and recipe developer Rachel Riederman. “As you settle in to watch your favorite film, don’t merely serve popcorn, but rather a perfect selection of cheeses, meats, candies, and snacks, all perfectly paired to complement whatever 90- to 180-minute adventure you’re about to embark on.”
What goes better with a Lord of the Rings marathon than a “second breakfast”–inspired spread? Can you even watch Monty Python without shrubbery crudités nearby? Why not a Twilight rewatch with a selection of apple slices and salami rosettes?
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
