Welcome to our Christmas Gift Guide 2022: One Hundred Percent Me is a new children’s book which is written by Renee Macalino Rutledge Illustrated by Anita Prades.
My niece Payton is White/ Mexican and has been asking questions including why is she different from her sister and brother. Her mom and step-dad Joe keep pushing the questions under the rug. Which to me isn’t right.
I believe Paton’s parents should answer the question head on. Which is why I’m excited to give Payton a copy of One Hundred Percent Me. You may ask why don’t you give her the copy you received and its so when she visits if her Parents don’t share the story with her I can and will.
This morning while working Charlie was looking for a book to read and he brought me One Hundred Percent Me. As I worked Charlie read the story to me and he said mom you need to share this book with Payton which allowed me to discuss Payton’s concerns with Charlie and how she could help him.
I love how the book reminds everyone that no, matter what you look like that we are all unique and 100 percent our own person. Teaching Charlie that it is okay to be different and to be proud of ourselves no, matter what we look like or were we come from.
About:
A heartwarming story about the joys of multicultural families and being mixed race. One Hundred Percent Me takes readers (ages 4 to 8) along as a young girl explores and accepts her unique identity.
It can be confusing to be a child of mixed race. As the little girl moves through daily life in the big City, she hears some people say she looks more like her Puerto Rican dad, while others claim she takes after her Filipina mom. Should she favor one identity over the other?
No! In fact, honoring every facet of her identity equally becomes the main character’s favorite affirmation. This beautifully illustrated book about celebrating differences, claiming our belonging, and acknowledging our heritage encourages all readers to embrace the fact that we are all 100% ourselves.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
