Cookbook Launch Day- always observed on October 12th

Cookbook Launch Day, a October 12th holiday. A little-known day designed to launch a new cookbook. Schools, Churches, clubs, and organizations ask members to donate a recipe for creating their own cookbooks. Working with a publisher, they put a cookbook together filled with family recipes, and publish it for members and friends. Did you know these cookbooks are often used as a fundraiser?

Traditionally, cookbooks were either printed by a printing company or made on a copier and then put together in a binder of some kind. Nowadays, it’s easier to create and publish a cookbook. Online Cookbooks abound and contain virtually any recipe that you are looking for. You can read the recipe from your smartphone as you prepare it. Or, print out a single page with the specific recipe you want.

Creating and launching a new cookbook is an exciting event. There are always new recipes to discover. Which encourages us to try new recipes with family and friends. Cooks will tell you that you can’t have too many cookbooks.

Emergency Nurses Day – observed on the second Wednesday in October

Emergency Nurses Day recognizes an important caregiver. Emergency Nurses provide comfort and care to people who are seriously hurt or ill, and in need of urgent care. Emergency Nurses are highly trained to provide medical support to people during emergency room visits. According to the Emergency Nurse’s Association “this holiday salutes the dedication and commitment of emergency nursing professionals, who bring care, comfort, and compassion to patients.”

These nurses see it all and, often it “ain’t good”. Yet, Emergency Room Nurse return to work, knowing they make a difference to sick, injured, and sometimes dying people that enter the ER every day.

Emergency Nurses Day is held during Emergency Nurses Week.

Emergency Nurse everywhere, we hope you enjoy Emergency Nurses Day.

How to Celebrate Emergency Nurses Day

If you know an Emergency Room nurse, tell them you appreciate what they do. Certainly, during the peak of the COVID Pandemic, Emergency Room Nurses sacrifices were vital to saving countless lives. Emergency Room Nurses did so at significant risk to themselves, too.

History and Origin of Emergency Nurses Day

Although they did not say so, we believe the Emergency Nurse’s Association most likely created Emergency Room Nurses and they certainly sponsor it.

There is some reference to this as an “International” day because it is also celebrated in Australia and Canada.

Old Farmer’s Day– always observed on October 12th.

Old Farmers Day, is an October 12th holiday, that honors the hard labor of Farmers throughout American history. Early American culture was heavily a farming culture. Early settlers cleared fields and pristine woods, to farm the rich land. Early Settlers brought seeds and farming methods with them. They also found new seeds and learned new methods along the way. Many of those new farming methods came from Native Americans, who were already farming the land. Most notably, was the Native American technique of hilling, or mounding soil.

The month of October is a very appropriate month to celebrate and honor Farmers. At this time, the Harvest is largely complete which means Farmers can take a break from their labors, to enjoy this celebration.

A farmer’s work is long and hard and it certainly doesn’t make a person rich. Farming has its good years and its bad ones. There is no guarantee of a good crop. Weather, Pests, and disease problems often prove disastrous. Through it all, farmers have persevered. Farmers ceaseless hard work sets an example for all.

As Americans, we tip our hat to all Farmers, young and old, for their contributions to American culture, values, Society, and the economy. Happy Old Farmers Day!

How to Celebrate Old Farmers Day

  • Take a few minutes to think about the hard labor and long hours it takes to bring food to the marketplace.
  • Visit a Farmers Market in your area.
  • Say thank you to any Farmers you meet today.
  • Watch a tv show with a farming theme.

History and Origin of Old Farmers Day

Our research did not find the creator or the origin of Old Farmers Day but the origin of this holiday dates back to the early to mid-1800s.

There appears to be many dates in September and October when local towns celebrate “Farmer Days”. Many have been around for a long time. For some unknown reason, October 12th is by far the most common date for this celebration of farming and of the harvest they reap.

Moment of Frustration Day– is always observed on October 12th.

Moment of Frustration Day, is an October 12 holiday, which is truly a frustrating day. If you are not worried or frustrated like many of us, count your blessings. Disappointment and displeasure are common. Nothing good comes out of frustration. Anger and depression are a couple of results. One of the most important reasons for today is the opportunity to let our aggravations out.  Don’t use today to add to your frustrations. Whatever you do today, don’t find new things to fret over.

We encourage you to let your frustrations out in a constructive way, but never in an angered way. Use this holiday to release grievances and anger safely and sensibly. Drinking and drugs never solves problems they makes matters worse.

How to Celebrate Moment of Frustration Day

Are you frustrated? Let it out! We’ve got some suggestions on how to ease that moment of frustration in a harmless, healthy manner.

  • When faced with an aggravating situation, walk away from the situation. Time and distance will often help to eliminate the problem. The walk allows you to think about how to resolve the issues causing you to feel this way.
  • Go out the back door and do a little yelling. We suggest you do the yelling away from others. Afterward, you will feel much better.
  • If you need to cry, then cry.
  • Consider what will ease or eliminate those frustrations. How can you resolve the problem?
  • Let your feelings out to someone you can confide in. If it’s a frustration about a person, talk with them. Let them know how you feel.
  • Use a family member, or a professional to help you.

History and Origin of Moment of Frustration Day

We were very frustrated in researching Moment of Frustration Day and we did not find the creator, nor the origin of Moment of Frustration Day. And, we found few references to Moment of Frustration Day.

Our speculation is the creator was indeed devious. We believe they intentionally left little documentation or clues as to the nature of Moment of Frustration Day. In doing so, their sole purpose was to create a moment of frustration which we believe worked quite well.

National Gumbo Day– always observed on October 12th

National Gumbo Day, is an October 12 holiday. National Gumbo Day is a great opportunity, to enjoy a little Louisiana Cajun cooking.  For those of us in the South, that is easy, because Gumbo is on almost all restaurant menus. Did you know you can’t walk into a restaurant in New Orleans, that does not offer Gumbo. For Northerners, it may take a little research, to find restaurants in your area that serve Gumbo. Or, you may want to look for a Gumbo recipe online and make Gumbo.

Gumbo is a thick Stew, with Chicken, Beef, or Seafood. Gumbo is heavily seasoned with Cajun spices. Gumbo must contain Okra.

Gumbo is the African word for Okra

To celebrate National Gumbo Day, just have a dish of Gumbo and the day is extra special if you prepare the Gumbo yourself.

How to Celebrate National Gumbo Day

It is easy to participate in National Gumbo Day. Eat Gumbo which can purchase at a restaurant. Or, try your hand at Cajun cooking and make Gumbo from scratch. Making Gumbo yourself sounds like much more fun.

History and Origin of National Gumbo Day

Our research did not find the creator, or the origin of National Gumbo Day. The recipe dates back to 1802-1803, where it was first made in Louisiana.

We did not find any documentation confirming this to be a “National” holiday and we found no congressional records or presidential proclamation.

National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day – Wednesday of the second full week in October. Dates: October 12th, 2022; October 11th, 2023; October 16th, 2024

Today is National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day. As a parent I think this could become one of my favorite holidays!

If you have kids!? Then, you get to let them “take you to lunch” today. You’re gonna love it. Go to your child’s school and join them for lunch in the school cafeteria. Actually, that’s the point. You get to see the hopefully healthy lunch they are getting at school, check out the environment in the cafeteria, and perhaps engage with the cafeteria staff about the quality of the foods your child eats each day.

You will have to check with the school administrators, to see if they participate in Take Your Parents to Lunch Day. We also suggest you discuss Take Your Parents to Lunch Day with your kids first. This holiday may only work with lower grade levels. Even then, some kids may be embarrassed to have mom and dad show up in the lunch room.

We are gonna partially hijack this holiday with the following suggestion for grown-up children:  Take mom and dad to lunch at their favorite restaurant, or a special restaurant you went to together as a family. As to who pays, we will leave that up to you and your parents!

How to Celebrate National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day

  • Adult kids take your parents out to lunch.
  • If schools participate, parents can go to their kid’s school to have lunch with them.
  • Kids can take their parents outdoors to lunch. Weather permitting.

History and Origin of National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day

National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day appears to be relatively new. National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day was created around 2015. Our research has not yet uncovered who created National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day. However, it is clear that the reason for this holiday is to have a little family fun.

We did not find any documentation confirming National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day to be a true “National” day. We found no congressional records or presidential proclamation. This was not surprising as National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day is a newer holiday and there is very little written about it.
