Food Holidays: October 2022: National Dessert Month

The Mommies Reviews

Welcome to our series featuring Food Holidays: October 2022Food Holidays: October 2022: National Dessert Month. Did you know in October we celebrate National Dessert Month. This isn’t good for me as I’m supposed to be on a diet and Charlie doesn’t eat Sweets. My question for you is are you going to celebrate National Dessert Month? if so how?

National Dessert Month

If Dessert “Day” isn’t long enough or dessert “Week” isn’t long enough ? How about a entire month celebrating desserts? You can have a totally different treat at the end of every October day. You’ll still have so many desserts left to try. Let’s face the cold sweet facts. Dessert’s a necessity. It’s quite possibly the only reason kids will finish their Vegetables. As an adult, go ahead and have extra Pie. No, one will say anything this month.

National Dessert Month Activities

  1. Today is the day to try a new dessert you’ve always wanted to make like Baked Alaska, or Chocolate Eclairs. You’ll impress your friends, instill yourself with a sense of pride, and have a reward for your efforts!
  2. Have dessert for breakfast That’s right, skip the eggs. Prepare French Toast, or Chocolate Chip Pancakes.
  3. Host a costume party where people dress as their favorite dessert? I think I will be a Chocolate Chip Cookie with Walnuts. What will you dress up as?

Five Reasons People Love Dessert

  1. The word “dessert” originated from the French word “desservir,” meaning “to clear the table.”
  2. In the United Kingdom, dessert is usually referred to as “Pudding.”
  3. The inventor, an Armenian-French Chef, likely made the original Boston Cream Pie in a Pie tin. Which was more common than cake pans at the time. English was not his first language. You can guess the rest.
  4. German Chocolate Cake was named after Sam German, who developed German’s Sweet Baking Chocolate in 1852.
  5. New York’s famed Delmonico’s Restaurant named Baked Alaska as a way to celebrate Alaska’s annexation.

Why We Love National Dessert Month

  1. Because it’s dessert it’s sweet and delicious. Desssert tops off dinner and you can even have dessert for breakfast.
  2. Studies have shown that adults who eat dessert as part of an otherwise nutritious diet succeed in losing weight in the long term. Because the body responds to small amounts of desserts by decreasing its own appetite for them.
  3. How about a Baklava from Greece, a Coconut Bar from China, or Sherry from France? Or even an exotic Fruit Salad?
