Vignette Art Fair, Largest Women Art Fair in Texas, Opens October 13th
The 4th edition of the Vignette Art Fair is the largest exhibition of Texas women artists
this year, bringing together 54 artists from across the state, selected from 170
applicants by curator Vicki Meek. This year’s fair is filled with many noteworthy artists
such as Catherine Allen, Rehab El Sadek, Jessica Baldivieso, Angél Faz, Danielle
Georgiou, Jennifer Crowley, Tammy Gomez, Nitashia Johnson, Tina Medina,
Marcy Palmer, Michelle Gonzales, Valerie Gillespie, Cat Rigdon, Aliyah Cydonia,
Marilyn Waligore, Kirupa Sargunaraja and Erica Stephens, amongst others.
These artists reside in cities across the state such as Houston, Austin, San Marcos,
College Station, Midland, Fort Worth, and Dallas, representing the rich racial, cultural,
geographic, and ethnic diversity of Texas. There will be work in all mediums and
styles at the Vignette Art Fair 2022, and it is available to purchase with 100% of the
proceeds going to the artist.
The fair kicks off with a VIP preview reception Thursday, October 13th from 7 to 9
p.m. and opening reception for the public Friday, October 14th from 7 to 9 p.m.
The fair is open for general viewing October 14th and 15th from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at
the Freeway Hall inside the Dallas Market Hall. There will be a press preview
Thursday, October 13th from 6 to 7 p.m. with press welcome to stay and attend the
VIP reception, where artists, staff, and the curator will be present and available.
The return of the Vignette Art Fair comes at a time when women’s rights and issues
are under intense debate and scrutiny in the United States and particularly in the
State of Texas. This year’s fair will give the entire country an opportunity to hear
directly from Texas women artists through their visual art. Under the curation of Vicki
Meek, who in addition to being an artist and curator is also a longtime activist and
organizer, this year’s Vignette Art Fair rises to the occasion of addressing our unique
and challenging times.
“Texas Vignette is honored to partner with someone as influential and well
respected as Vicki,” states Texas Vignette President, Jessica Ingle. “Her
40-plus years of dedication to North Texas as an artist, curator, and social
activist is unparalleled and has shaped the cultural landscape of our metroplex.
Vicki also has deep ties with art communities throughout Texas; her extensive
curatorial work with institutions and organizations such as the Carver
Community Cultural Center, Project Row Houses, the African American
Museum of Dallas, The Black Arts Festival, and the Dallas Museum of Art
brings a depth of knowledge and experience to this year’s fair that is
unprecedented. I am personally very excited to see the 2022 Vignette Art Fair.”
Additionally, this year’s fair will be the first Vignette Art Fair since the pandemic,
and the first fair at the Freeway Hall inside Dallas Market Hall. The first three
critically acclaimed fairs were at the former Texas Women’s Museum in Fair
Park.
Texas Vignette is run by an all-volunteer Board of Directors of women artists
and arts professionals. The advisory committee consists of such art world
luminaries as Jeremy Strick, Director of the Nasher Sculpture Center,
Katherine Brodbeck, senior contemporary curator at the Dallas Museum of Art,
and Ken Villalovos, Publisher of Arts + Culture, Texas. The need to support
women in the arts in Texas is still a relevant mission.
2022 Vignette Art Fair Curator Vicki Meek states, “I was very impressed
with the scope and quality of work I saw at the 2019 Vignette so it was a
no-brainer for me when Jessica [Ingle] asked me to serve as curator for this
year’s exhibition. Anyone who’s followed my career knows that an important
part of my curatorial practice has been providing exhibition opportunities for
women who remain the most underrepresented population in the visual art
world. Despite being more than 51% of the graduating MFA candidates,
women are still finding it difficult to get gallery representation and are still not
seeing themselves in museum collections or even in temporary exhibitions.
So, Vignette serves a very important purpose and I’m honored to be a small
part of that purpose.”

ABOUT TEXAS VIGNETTE
For emerging artists, gaining momentum and the pathway to a sustainable
career depends largely on elusive opportunities to exhibit, yet there continues
to be a large gender disparity in terms of museum exhibitions, acquisitions,
and gallery representation. In response, Jessica Ingle developed Vignette Art
Fair in 2017 to bridge this gap and provide women artists with the opportunity
to exhibit their work. Vignette Art Fair is fully submissions-based, with 100% of
all sales going directly to the artists. After a successful first run of the fair, the
donation-based 501c3 organization Texas Vignette was formed in 2018 to
continue the annual tradition of the fair and expand program offerings to further
the mission of promoting, supporting, and connecting women in the arts in
Texas. Learn more about the history of the Vignette Art Fair and stay informed
