Applesauce Cake Day

Applesauce Cake Day is a time to enjoy an old and often forgotten dessert making this a truly delicious day.

It doesn’t take much to create Applesauce Cake Day all you need to do is eat a slice of Applesauce Cake. The only problem is finding a Applesauce Cake. If you’re lucky, a bakery or a restaurant will pick up on this holiday, and offer Applesauce Cake as the dessert of the day. Otherwise, you may have to make an Applesauce Cake from scratch.

Hug Your Cat Day

Today is Hug Your Cat Day. If you are one of the lucky ones and have a cat or several then you should go ahead and give them a hug or two.

Cat lovers can really get into this holiday. If you’re a cat lover, you can really appreciate the warm, cozy feeling you get when you curl up on a chair, and hug your cat. The only problem is, your cat will most likely only allow a brief hug before wandeing away. If your cat is a true hugger, count your blessings.

Dog lovers I’m sorry, but hugging you dog will not suffice. If you are going to be “into” this holiday, you simply must hug a Cat even if it isn’t your Cat.

If your like me and you don’t have a Cat then you can correct this today because the month of June is “Adopt a Cat Month”.

The History and Origin of Hug Your Cat Day:

Our research did not find the creator, or the origin of this holiday but we did extensive research, as there are several dates referenced for this holiday. Unfortunately, we found no content or factual information.

Varying sources refer to this holiday on a number of dates in both May and June. June 4th is the most commonly noted date. In addition, June is National Adopt a Cat Month so it seems more logical to celebrate this holiday in June (rather than May)

National Cheese Day

Today is National Cheese Day. From breakfast to your late night snack, this is a holiday to enjoy a wide variety of Cheeses.

People around the world love Cheese and Americans consume on average around 31 pounds of Cheese a year. We get to choose among a huge variety of flavors and textures of Cheese not only today but everyday.

Cheese is produced from pressed curds of Milk. Cheese has been a staple of our diets since ancient times, dating back as far back as 10,000 years ago. By the time of the Roman Empire, Cheese had become widespread.

Depending upon who is counting, there is between 800 to 1,400 varieties of Cheese to choose from, classified by taste and texture.. Unfortunately, many of these varieties are little known and hard to find. Even so, there is no shortage of the varieties of Cheese in the market. The flavor and texture of Cheeses are influenced by temperature, aging process, and spices.

Cheese can be made from the Milk of Cows, Goats, Sheep and Buffalos.

It is a sheer pleasure to celebrate National Cheese Day. Eat lots of Cheeses. You could fix a Grilled Cheese Sandwichto Cheesecake, from American Cheese to Brie, there’s no shortage of Cheese varieties and recipes. Host a Cheese Tasting party, is a great way to celebrate National Cheese Day. Don’t forget to pair the Cheese with Wine.

Eat Cheese today at every meal, and with every snack. Most importantly, try a variety of Cheese that you’ve never tasted before.

The Origin of National Cheese Day:

Our research did not find the creator, or the origin of this day. It does not appear to have been created too long ago, perhaps sometime since 2,000 A.D.

There is no presidential proclamation, nor any documentation from the U.S. Congress, to support this as a true “National” day.

National Trails Day  First Saturday in June

National Trails Day is established to celebrate, improve and enjoy America’s t trail system. National Trails Day is the nation’s largest celebration of trails, and all that goes with it. In addition to the national trail system, there are countless miles of State, County and local town trails for you to enjoy. While today is a celebration of national trails, it is perfectly fine to celebrate all trails in our Nation.

Trail systems are enjoyed for a wide range of activities, including:

  • Hiking
  • Biking
  • Horseback riding
  • Bird watching
  • Geocaching

How to Celebrate National Trails Day

There are any ways to celebrate this holiday and here are a few ideas:

  • Get out on a trail with family or friends and enjoy a wonderful time with Nature.
  • Host a bike ride or hiking event on your local trail.
  • Organize and conduct a trail improvement project. Scouts and many other groups can do important service projects, improving a local trail. Remember: This requires permission from the government organization that oversees the trail.

The History and Origin of National Trails Day:

Our research did not find the creator of this holiday but The American Hiking Society is a strong supporter and advocate of National Trails Day.

References date its origin back to the1980s and 1990s. At the time, trail advocates, outdoors industry leaders, and politicians worked to promote and bring awareness to the Nation’s wonderful and extensive trail system.

We found no documentation supporting this to be a formal “National” holiday, which requires a presidential proclamation, or an act of Congress.

Still haven’t found “Mr. Right” and the years are beginning to pile up? Don’t worry or fret Old Maid’s Day brings awareness to those of us who have not yet found or caught) there soul mates.

Old Maid’s Day exists to put into the spotlight all of the fair maidens who have yet to find their Prince Charming.

Ladies, celebrate Old Maids Day by getting out and getting noticed. Guys, open your eyes “Mrs. Right” may be right under your nose.

History and Origin of Old Maid Day:

The year was 1946 or thereabouts WWII was over, and millions of Soldiers were returning home. There was a huge increase in marriages. Somewhere during this time, it was noted that there were plenty of Maidens waiting for the returning GIs. The ladies were not getting younger, as they awaited the return of their GI.

The long War had disrupted, and put on hold, many relationships. Many GIs did not return home. Dances and socials were held to bring together returning Soldiers and the available, unmarried ladies. It is from this occurrence, that Old Maid’s Day emerged.
