Good afternoon, welcome to our series sharing Food Holidays: March 10th, 2022. I know my daughter must be doing a Happy Dance in Heaven this morning as it’s National Ranch Day and Suzzane couldn’t east without Ranch and at times Charlie is the same way. But not me all I want Ranch for is Salads. How about you?
- In 1954 the Salad Dressing Ranch was invented at Hidden Valley Ranch. Which is a Dude Ranch near Santa Barbara, California.
- Ranch dressing has been the best-selling Salad Dressing in the United States since 1992, overtaking Italian Salad Dressing.
- Hidden Valley brand owns the right to ‘the Original Ranch® After decades of trademark lawsuits similar products can be labeled ‘Ranch style’ or simply ‘Ranch’
- While popular in the United States and Canada, Ranch dressing is virtually unknown in most of the world
- Here is a fun tip for you. Since 1972 Hidden Valley Ranch has been owned by Clorox.
It’s National Ranch Day, when we’re supposed to take time to appreciate ranch dressing and everything it does to make our lives better. Here are a few stats and facts to help celebrate . . .
1. A guy named Steve Henson invented Ranch Dressing in the 1950s by mixing Buttermilk with different Herbs and Spices. Steve Henson perfected Ranch while living at a place called Hidden Valley Ranch near Santa Barbara, California. And for the first few years, you could only order it through the mail.
2. “The Chicago Tribune” ranked the best ranch dressings a while back and put Hidden Valley at #1. But a separate ranking by “professional” taste testers claimed Ken’s Ranch Dressing is better for dipping things like fries.
3. Mashed.com claims Wingstop has the best fast-food Ranch and McDonald’s ranked last. A Wingstop employee actually went viral last month after people were shocked to find out there’s Mayonnaise in Ranch Dressing. Did you know that because I didn’t?
4. 8% of Americans put Ranch Dressing on Hamburgers. 36% think Pizza dipped in Ranch sounds good 20% mix Ranch with Salsa.
5. Ranch has been the bestselling Salad Dressing in the U.S. since 1992. But Hidden Valley says only 30% of the dressing they sell is used on Salads now. The other 70% is dipping or on other foods.
Thank you,
