Good morning. It’s Valentine’s Day. Do you have anything fun to do today? I’m going to the movies with Charlie and David. I can’t wait. Would you like to join us? Then when we get home, I am going to ask Charlie to help me clean out my computer which should be a lot of fun. Not…
Clean out Your Computer Day – second Monday of Month
Clean Out Your Computer Day is a day to review and delete old files.
Most of us add files to our computer because computers have a huge storage capacity. Many of these files and are forgotten over time. Overtime the files clog memory and cause confusion during retrieval of other files. Some of these files may slow down your computer.
Somewhere along the way, a most likely a computer geek or computer serviceman, created this Holiday as an opportunity for us to remember to cleanup unused files.
Ferris Wheel Day– always held on February 14th.
Can you imagine a Carnival without a Ferris Wheel? I can’t. We have George Washington Gale Ferris, Jr. a Civil Engineer, to thank. In 1893, George Washington Gale Ferris, Jr made the first Ferris Wheel for the World’s Colombian Exhibition in Chicago.
The purpose of this Holiday is obvious. To celebrate the birthday of George Washington Gale Ferris, Jr and to enjoy his invention. The trouble is, there aren’t many Amusement Parks operating in mid-February in North America. You may have to settle with enjoying old photos of trips to an Amusement Park.
Origin of Ferris Wheel Day:
Austria, a Country in love with their Ferris Wheels, also claims to have created this Holiday. Their claim is that this date was chosen because in Austria this is historically the most weather friendly day of the year.
National Organ Donor Day– always on February 14th.
National Organ Donor Day encourages people to sign up to donate their Organs which may save a life.
Sure, it is uncomfortable to think of our own death, especially an early death. But, if it was to happen, you could save o lives and you are giving the gift of life to other people. Please consider seriously signing up to donate your Organs.
Valentine’s Day– February 14th.
Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love and lovers. The roots of Valentine’s Day goes back to ancient times, when people paid honor to the Roman God of Fertility. This was known as the Feast of Lupercalia, and was celebrated even then on February 14th.
The traditions of Valentine’s Day are broad and many. It is a time to exchange cards or small gifts. Chocolates, flowers, jewelry, and romantic dinners are the perfect Valentine’s Day Gift.
It is a romantic event for lovers, and a fun event for kids and family. Many a couples become engaged or marry on Valentine’s Day. For others, Valentines is a day to fall in love.
For the Record: On Valentine’s Day, 2009, 39,897 couples, friends and families got together in Mexico City, and kissed for 10 seconds. It’s the world record for the most simultaneous kisses.
Did you know? While 75% of Chocolate purchases are made by women all year long, during the days and minutes before Valentine’s Day, 75% of the Chocolate purchases are made by men. Over $1 billion of Chocolate is purchased for Valentine’s Day.
Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre This Holiday is not completely about love. During the “Roaring twenties (1920’s)”, mobs, crime and gangsters were at a height in many parts of the U.S. Alcohol was banned, spawning the rise of Bootlegging and mob activity. Chicago, Illinois experienced more than its share of mobs and gangsters. On Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1929, four gangsters dressed up as policemen, massacred seven members of a rival gang.
Thank you,
