Camp Fimfo

The Mommies Reviews

I would like to share one of my dreams for the Christmas Holidays with you. I’ve always wanted to go away during Christmas to a place that has SNOW but it never happens. With David not being much for the cold I would even take a warmer place like Camp Fimfo.

Before Charlie grows up and doesn’t want to go places with David and I. Although, with the year I’ve had I wouldn’t mind leaving them at home and taking my new puppy Pheobie and hiding out her for a day or two or heck even a month or two. No, you can’t join me unless you get your own CABIN….

For many, camping season ends in the Fall when temperatures get cooler, and sweaters replace swimsuits. However, camping in December has its perks: campgrounds aren’t as crowded, rates are typically lower, and at  Camp Fimfo, there’s the opportunity to experience the magic of the Holiday Season in an unexpected way.

Conveniently located in New Braunfels, which is an easy drive from many major cities in Texas, Camp Fimfo offers numerous accommodation options (with heat!) that put you in the middle of Texas Hill Country’s most picturesque landscapes. Throw in Holiday activities, Seasonal flavors and a bit of shopping and it’s a perfect December getaway destination.

Here are seven reasons why Camp Fimfo should be on your radar this Holiday Season:

  1. Less Time in the Car: The saying goes, “the joy is in the journey,” but when you’ve got a car full of kids, is that really true? Luckily, Camp Fimfo is an easy drive from most major cities in Texas, and convenient enough for those in neighboring States. (For reference: San Antonio: 35 minutes; Austin: 45 minutes; Houston: 2.5 hours; Dallas/Fort Worth: 4 hours; Lake Charles, LA: 5 hours). Situated in picturesque Texas Hill Country, known for beautiful hills and historic landmarks, and along one of the best spots of the Guadalupe River, guests have numerous opportunities to experience not only a range of outdoor activities but some of the area’s most popular visitor attractions and  can’t miss restaurants

2. Leave the Tents at Home: While some brave souls like to Tent Camp during the Winter, for most recreational campers, Camp Fimfo has numerous ways to stay that ensure you stay warm and cozy. Try an A-Frame Riverview Cabin, perfect for two with a front porch overlooking the Guadalupe River. Have a big group this Holiday Season? Reserve the Coyote Cabin with room for 12 and a full kitchen; four-legged friends are welcome in cabin options like the Bluebonnet Cabin; and if you’ve got your own rig, the Red Carpet RV sites come with premium concrete pads, full hook ups and views of rolling, tree-topped hills.

3. No Camp Stove Needed: Many of the cabins at Camp Fimfo have kitchenettes or full kitchens, but if you want to spend more time enjoying the scenery and Seasonal temperatures, head over to the on-site Squirrely’s Tavern. Offering locally inspired adult beverages like the Guadaloop-Hey and creative Texas-inspired fare such as Smokehouse Nachos and the NB Brat, guests will be treated to a selection of Seasonal food and drink during the month of December. In addition, warm up on those chilly mornings with a mug of Pecan Coffee at the Coffee Truck.

4. More Money for Gifts: Save your budget for buying presents by taking your camping adventure off-season. Take advantage of a variety of non-peak deals that can be added on top of lower nightly rates. From free nights to 25% off 5-night cabin or campsite stays, there are numerous options for saving money and more for gifts! Find all Special Offers here.

5. Festive Photo Opps: Looking to create a unique Christmas card? The Camp Fimfo Truck is decked out with presents and seasonal décor, perfect for getting your family photo, or find picture-perfect, camping-themed Christmas trees at the Visitors Center, Squirrely’s Tavern, the General Store and Activities Lawn. Guests in the Coyote and Bluebonnet Cabins will find simple, yet festive, Christmas trees and decorations ideal as the backdrop for your personal Holiday traditions.

6. Perfect Stocking Stuffers: While the General Store is the place to buy camping essentials, it’s also a hub to showcase local Artisans and businesses that make up the fabric of the New Braunfels area. The New Braunfels Candle Company is hand-poured locally and made from 100% soy; Fredericksburg Farms offers Jellies and Preserves; Western Son’s Vodka and Water 2 Wine is a perfect gift for those over 21 and a seasonal Camp Fimfo t-shirt is a stylish way to remember your trip.

7. Santa Sightings (and so much more!): While some of the Water and Outdoor Attractions are Seasonal, there are still plenty of activities like gem mining, scavenger hunts, mini golf and special events the whole family will love. Throughout December visitors can participate in Holiday crafts, winter movie nights, Seasonal activities like snowball fights, elf walks and winter story times by local storyteller Larry Thompson; Winter Social with face painting, games and family-friendly movies; and of course, there may be a Santa sighting or two! There’s so much more happening throughout the Season.
