Good morning, how are you? I would like to wish you a fun filled week as we begin a new week. It’s Fall and its so pretty here this morning. It makes me want to get out and walk. But after being sick the past couple days Charlie and David said I needed to take it easy.
Before they banish me to the couch, I wanted to share our series featuring Unique Holidays: October 25th, 2021. Did you know its Howl at the Moon Night, but my throat is hurting too bad for me to Howl at anything. Would you like to join Charlie as he howls at the Moon. David said if I felt better this morning, he would have taken Charlie and I to Olive Garden to celebrate National Pasta Day. That is out and we will have to celebrate another day.
Howl at the Moon Night– This holiday is always held on October 25
Every year on October 25th, we get the opportunity to participate and enjoy Howl at the Moon Night. Hopefully, the evening will be cloudless and hopefully, that night will be a full Moon. Which is more fun to howl at.
This Holiday is all about the Animals that are known to “howl at the moon”. Including Wolves, Coyotes, Dogs, and humans that you know. In particular, Wolves have been howling at the moon for a long, long time. Wolves have been around for over 1.5 millions years, longer than humans.
People believe all Canines are more vocal during a full moon, But, do Wolves really howl at the Moon. Recent studies say “No”. But I don’t believe it. How about you?
The Legend of the Wolf and the Moon
According to an ancient legend, the full Moon came down to earth on a dark evening to discover its mysteries. The Moon was playing among the trees when she became trapped in the branches. A Wolf came upon the scene and freed her. They spent the entire night sharing stories, laughing and having a good time. The Moon fell in love with the Wolf but the Wolf didn’t love the Moon. The Moon took the Wolf shadow. Upon seeing the Moon, the Wolf would begin to howl, begging to get his shadow back.
What do you do to participate in this special night? We think you know what to do on Howl at the Moon Night. Join in on the fun and go outside tonight and howl at the Moon at the top of your lungs. BTW: If the Moon is in the Sky during the day right now, and you can see it, its perfectly appropriate to howl at the Moon during the daytime. You can also use this Holiday to learn more about Wolves and Conservation efforts to ensure their survival.
