This is a review for the book When Silence Screams published by Mark Edward Langley in exchange for this review.
Once my copy of When Silence Screams arrived I sat down to read the novel which is about a missing girl. Having a daughter I could feel myself being pulled into the Novel and can see this happening to all parents.
The more I read in the novel the harder the novel got to read because there were parts that became pretty graphic. But the Historical parts of the Novel kept me intrigued and pushing through to the end. I can’t wait to read more of the Authors work.
When Silence Screams I would share with Charlie not because there is anything bad in it and I wouldn’t mind sharing the History parts and the Girl involved but with her being missing and the things happening to her I knew the story would bother Charlie.
About:
Mark Edward Langley is the award-winning author of the Arthur Nakai Mystery Series. The second book in the series, Death Waits in the Dark, was a finalist in the American Book Fest Awards 2020 and won the coveted Feathered Quill Award for Best Mystery of 2021.
Langley has always felt a kinship with the American Southwest. When he was young, his heart and soul were touched by the beauty of the landscape and the wonder of its people. When he was older, he began reading Robert B. Parker, Mickey Spillane, John D. McDonald, Ernest Hemingway, Tony Hillerman and, more recently, Craig Johnson of Longmire fame. But it was when he revisited the West of his youth in his thirties that he realized he had found his true home. Researching his debut novel, Path of the Dead, he drove from Albuquerque, New Mexico to Glacier National Park, Montana, traveling through the beautiful and iconic scenery that was to become the book’s majestic backdrop. Upon revisiting New Mexico, doing research for the series’ second title, he had the wonderful opportunity to meet with some of the Navajo people and consult with them around the authenticity of his fictional writing. Award-winning author James Wade summed up Langley’s writing is this way: “There’s not a better detective writer in the American West!”
Langley’s latest release, When Silence Screams (Aug. 31, 2021, 9798533959858, $15.95), jumps right back into the life of Arthur Nakai, an ex-marine and ex-member of the Shadow Wolves, a CPB tactical unit recruited by the U.S. Government to hunt human traffickers and drug smugglers on the U.S./Mexican border as part of Homeland Security. With that life behind him, he now lives with his wife Sharon as owner/operator of White Mesa Outfitters in New Mexico. Soon after getting his private investigator license, he finds himself with his first client: Melanie Manygoats and her young son, seeking his help locating her missing daughter, whom she fears was kidnapped and sold into sex trafficking. Arthur accepts the case and soon finds himself wading through the world of teenage prostitution where he discovers April has already been sold to a man known to everyone in the trade as The Cuban. Running underage girls is his business, and the revolving door of the flesh trade is always rotating. Meanwhile, a 15-year-old girl goes missing, her bicycle found hidden among scrub brush under a bridge over an empty desert wash.
Are the cases related or are they simply part of a bigger, more horrifying picture plaguing Arthur’s beloved Dinétah?
