Welcome to our series sharing both Unique Holidays: October, 2021 and Food Holidays during October, 2021. Did you know this month is American Cheese Month. Which is fine with me and Charlie because its our favorite Cheese. Now, I have a question do you like American Cheese and if so what do you use it for and why?
American Cheese is a a slice of American life. Sure, it’s not your fancy Cheese monger’s Cheese. But when you need Cheese to melt to that perfectly gooey texture, you’ll ask all the fancy Cheese to step aside because only American cheese will do and American Cheese won’t overpower the recipes with its complex taste — but American Cheese can enhance the natural flavors.
How does American Cheese do that, you ask? American cheese has a way of losing itself in the dish while adding texture. Let’s celebrate our humble hero during American Cheese Month in October and lets be proud of all things Cheese!
AMERICAN CHEESE MONTH ACTIVITIES
- Take a picture of how you and your family enjoy American Cheese and share your picture with friends on Social Media.
- Invite your friends and family over and throw a Wine and Cheese party.
- Make your own Cheese which isn’t that difficult. All you need is a recipe and a little bit of patience.
NOT-SO-CHEESY AMERICAN CHEESE FACTS
- By law, American Cheese is supposed to be made with at least two types of Cheese. And it’s color, yellow or white, depends on the types of Cheese and Milk products used to make the Cheese,
- Many Cheese critics wanted American Cheese to be called Embalmed Cheese because Sodium Phosphate, an Emulsifying agent, used in the Cheese was also used to preserve Corpses. Today Sodium Phosphate is a commonly used Emulsifying agent.
- Originally American Cheese was sold in the form of blocks packed in tins by Kraft.
- According to Federal Laws, it can never be sold as ‘Cheese’ — but as ‘Processed Cheese’ — because the Cheese wasn’t made in the traditional way.
- Kraft American Cheese slices have 51% cheese but that’s not standard.
WHY WE LOVE AMERICAN CHEESE MONTH
- Cheese is a slice of heaven and kids love Cheese. You can put American Cheese on top of anything and kids will devour what ever it is on and they will not fuss about what there eating. Thank the LORD…
- Cheese is a comfort food for many of us, and Cheese is the stuff of childhood memories. Like Mac and Cheese your mom made. Or the taste of a Bologna and Kraft American Cheese Sandwich!
- Cheese is America’s gift to the world and did you know American Cheese is popular all over the world for its versatility and its uses in a variety of recipes.
