The Mommies Reviews

Good morning, welcome to our series sharing Food Holidays: September 1st, 2021. Do you like Gyro’s? Because I don’t and Charlie says he doesn’t either although he does eat Philly Cheesesteaks.

As for David he said if you would like all the Vegetables off the Sandwich he wouldn’t mind trying a Gyro out. How about you? Do you like Gyro’s and if so why?

National Gyro Day on Tuesday, September 1st.

Five facts about Gyros:

  1. A Gyro is a dish of Meat roasted on a vertical spit. Gyro is usually served as a Sandwich, also called a Gyros, with Tomato, Onion, and Tzatziki Sauce, wrapped in Pita Bread.
  2. To prepare Gyros, pieces of Meat are placed on a tall vertical spit, which turns in front of a source of heat, usually an Electric Broiler.
  3.  If the Meat is not Fatty enough, strips of Fat are added so that the Roasting Meat remains always moist and crisp.
  4. The rate of Roasting can be adjusted by varying the strength of the heat and the distance between the heat and the Meat, allowing the cook to adjust to varying rates of consumption.
  5. The outside of the Meat is sliced vertically in thin, crisp shavings when done. It is generally served in an Oiled, lightly grilled piece of Pita, rolled up with various Salads and Sauces.
