Welcome back to our series sharing Unique Food Holidays: July 18th, 2021. I would like to ask you to take a look at today’s Holidays and let me know which one you most would like to celebrate and why.
It’s the middle of the Dog Days of Summer and the weather is hot and sultry. It’s time for a cold and refreshing drink. Enjoying a Daiquiri on National Daiquiri Day is the perfect solution, to ease the effects of the heat and humidity of Summer.
The original Daiquiri consists of Rum, Lime Juice and Sugar, with plenty of Ice added to the glass. The Daiquiri was first created in 1898 by Jennings Stockton Cox, an American Mining Engineer.
The Daiquiri was named after the local Mining Village of Daiquiri, Cuba, at the Venus bar. Needless to say, the local miners loved the sweet Summer cooler, and it’s popularity quickly spread.
As its popularity grew, so did the number of varieties of Daquiri. The original Lime based recipe remains the most popular, along with Strawberry. The number of Daiquiri flavors is only limited by the number of Berries and other fruit.
In the 1940’s Ernest Hemmingway conceived the frozen Daiquiri at El Floridita in Havana, Cuba, when he had bartender Constantino Ribalaigua run the drink filled with Ice through a blender.

The History and Origin of National Daiquiri Day:
Our research has not yet uncovered the creator of this special day, or when it was first celebrated meaning this is not a true “National” day. Neither the U.S. congress, nor the President of the United States has proclaimed it a National day.
National Raspberry Cake Day makes today as sweet as a Summer day can be. Raspberries are among the best Fruits that Nature has to offer. Put Raspberries into a cake……Then, you can “have your Fruit and eat it, too!”
Raspberries are one of Summers sweet, Fruity treats and, the Harvest is going on right now. It’s only appropriate that we enjoy a piece of Raspberry Cake in celebration of the Harvest.
Check out this three step recipe for a perfect National Raspberry Cake Day:
- Go out to a “pick your own” farm and pick fresh Raspberries and bring the kids along.
- Bake fresh Raspberries into a cake (or two).
- Eat Raspberry Cake with family and friends.
Raspberry lovers will also enjoy National Raspberry Cream Pie Day.
