David’s Birthday was last month and had planned on doing a Drive By Birthday party for him. At the last minute David changed his mind and asked if we could go to Breakfast.
I said that would be fine I just need to let the people I had invited know of the change in plans. I could have invited the guest I had invited to the Drive By Birthday party but I didn’t.
With Covid-19 we have to wear a mask and a lot of people don’t like wearing the mask.Or they don’t feel comfortable going out to eat. As I thought about this I started to think I could order breakfast and pick it up and we could have a Picnic.
David said no, that isn’t what I would like to do. Can we just go to breakfast with Nancy and Ronnie. I said that would be fine. Then I asked David were he would like to eat. David said I would like to eat at Jackie’s Ham & Eggs.
I knew Nancy and Ronnie liked Jackie’s Ham & Eggs as we had tried to go there earlier and had a snafu. We made plans to meet early on Saturday at Jackie’s Ham & Eggs.
David and I have been together 12 years and have had breakfast here a lot of times. I knew there was always a wait to get in. Due to Covid-19 it isn’t this way now. Please help support a local business and visit Jackie’s Ham & Eggs.
If you aren’t a breakfast person like Charlie then go for lunch. Which is what Ronnie and David want to do. Before you come make sure and call all of your Dallas Cowboys Fans so they cam check out the walls.
Before you ask yes, when Jackie still owned Jackie’s Ham & Eggs they would come here and eat. In fact one of the Cowboys told Jackie she gives us to much food and if you ask me they still do. The food is so good you will eat everything on your plate and want more.
If you love Waitress like the ones on our favorite shoes then you will love Linda. Linda is just as funny as the ladies on Mel’s Diner. Listen to her stories about Jackie and you will be rolling in the floor.
The entire staff including Tom makes you feel right at home. I was able to even speak to the cook and let me tell you I felt like I had found a new friend. I wish I could have brought him home with me to cook for my family.
I ordered 2 Eggs Over Easy with Sausage Toast and Hash browns which were cooked perfectly. I asked for a side of Gravy and it had pieces of Sausage inside it which I wasn’t expecting but made the gravy stand out.
David ordered the Texas Sized Ham and Eggs with Grit’s and White Toast. David loved the Gritt’s and before I could even ask him how they were he had gobbled them down.

A History Lesson:
A Survivor’s StoryIn 1985, Josephine “Jackie” Shields and her Husband Bob Shields opened Ham- N – Eggs in Lewisville, Texas. Jackie’s desire to open a restaurant came out of adversity she faced early in her life.
In 1942, Japanese forces invaded Manilla, Philippines. Jackie at the time lived in Manilla as her father served as a high-ranking military officer. For three years, two months, and fourteen days of World War II Jackie, her sister, and mother were held captive by Japanese forces.
There Jackie and her family were starved and tortured among many other prisoners of war. “Putrid water, rice, and fish heads were all that we were fed. “, Jackie Said
The internment camps in the Philippines produced some of the harshest conditions. Of those held captive in the Philippines, one-third of the 13,966 civilians and 39,700 soldiers whom were interned by the Japanese died before the war ended according, to Australian historian Gavan Daws.
Of those many casualties was Jackie’s father a survivor of the Bataan death march who later died upon returning stateside of complications from malaria and other disease. “He stood 6 – foot – 4 but weighed only 86 pounds. You can imagine what a sight he was.” Shields told.
From those experiences Jackie vowed to never let anyone go hungry again! Deep in the heart of North Texas Ham-N- Eggs quickly became a popular spot to dine and developed a following among professional athletes.
Ham—N—Eggs has attracted the likes of Dallas Cowboy and Dallas Star greats like Troy Aikman, Mike Modano, Daryl Johnston, Mark Stepnowski, Chad Hennings, Emmitt Smith, Tony Romo, and Mark Tunei.
Known for our ginormous pancakes, friendly service, and former owner Jackie Shield’s larger than life personality. I was blessed to eat there when Jackie was still here.
Ham- N- Eggs has been serving up the community for over 34 years. Jackie Shields ruled the roost for over 22 years until here passing in late 2007. To keep her legacy alive Jackie’s son Jody Rice and her loyal staff continued to spread Jackie’s mission.
To honor Jackie Ham – N – Eggs was renamed to Jackie’s Ham – N – Eggs. In 2016, Jackie’s son Jody Rice passed away and his sons located in California took ownership.
Around the same time Ms. Margaret, Jackie’s longest tenured employee was rehabbing a torn rotator cuff. “It was a tough period for Jackie’s.”, Ms. Margaret said.
“All I wanted to do was be there and when I was there, I had to take a step back from my normal duties.”In mid-2019, the Rice family approached Ms. Margaret about taking over Jackie’s Ham – N – Eggs.
Over the years Jackie and Ms. Margaret had developed a special bond. The Rice family viewed Ms. Margaret as the most suitable person to continue their grandmothers’ mission.
Apprehensive to take on such a large business venture by herself, Ms. Margaret enlisted the help of her son Tom Gauna, and brought back their loyal kitchen staff, led by Domingo Ramirez and Rigo Castillo.
Together with our loyal staff and passion to serve our guest Jackie’s Ham—N—Eggs continues to strive to give our guests an eggscellent experience you won’t soon forget.
