I was sent this series of books and Mommy Brings Home the Bacon the second book in the series in exchange for a review. The thoughts in the review are mine and mine alone.
Charlie has heard me say dad is working to bring home the bacon but like all kids he only remembers what he wants to remember. When I asked Charlie to sit down and read this new book with me he couldn’t figure out why the book was called Mommy Brings Home the Bacon.
After reading Mommy Brings Home the Bacon Charlie said he understood what the Author was talking about and how this novel could just as easily been about his father or grandfather bringing home the bacon.
Charlie let me know he loved the illustrations and wanted to know if there was a book about a Dad Bringing Home the Bacon. I let Charlie know I didn’t think there was.
We went over words we read in Mommy Brings Home the Bacon and used those words for our Spelling words for the week. Charlie drew some of the pictures for Art class. Charlie even came up with some of his own drawings showing things I do during this day.
Mommy Brings Home the Bacon brought us closer together and took my mind of Suzzie’s Birthday and Mothers Day as she is in Heaven. I hope the Author is doing fine as well since she lost her son.
Charlie was so upset to find this out and to know Tommy was the same age as Charlie. I thought after reading Mommy Brings Home the Bacon that Charlie might be afraid to go to sleep since her son Tommy didn’t wake up but Charlie didn’t have any problems.
Charlie did say he wished he was still here so they could play Soccer together and that if they do more fundraising he would like to help raise money for Tommy.
“Mommy Brings Home the Bacon” is a heartwarming children’s book that explores the touching relationship between a young boy and his working mom.
Told from the young boy’s perspective, the whimsical narrative reflects a child’s imaginative interpretation of why mommy goes to work, and the beautiful bond that develops as a result.

ABOUT THE FIELD:
Tommy loved soccer and helped spread joy for the game across Los Angeles and beyond. But Los Angeles, and especially Tommy’s West Los Angeles Neighborhood, is lacking a dedicated public field space, limiting the growth of free and unstructured play.
When Tommy passed away, our community encouraged us to honor Tommy by building a full-size soccer/multipurpose field with lights in his name.
Together we fundraised while LA’s Department of Recreation Parks managed the field’s design and proposed location, Westwood Park and Recreation Center.
Tommy’s Field will support meaningful free play and new park programming, as well as serve local schools and youth organizations.
Tommy’s Field will be for everyone, and a place where Tommy and his passion for soccer, and all sports, will be forever remembered.
We are beyond grateful to the those who have donated to Tommy’s Field and continue to support the TM23 Foundation. From children who have hosted lemonade stands and asked for donations instead of birthday presents, to individual and corporate donors and those who went above and beyond by hosting special fundraising events that honored Tommy, we are proud to announce that a total of $1.2 million has been raised to build Tommy’s Field.
