When you get to the site you’ll see a brief introduction. Then use the menu in the middle of the page to explore over hundreds of questions and answers divided into biology branches that include: Biochemistry Cell Biology, Microbiology, Zoology, Physiology, Botany, Genetics, Ecology And More!Each of these branches are then subdivided into specific subjects. For example, under the heading “Microbiology” you’ll find the following subject areas: Bacteria Protists (Protozoans and Algae)Fungi Viruses. | European Space Agency Kids Page Age Range: 6-18 (Grades 1-12, with parental supervision) So you know a lot about astronauts, satellites, and space probes? On this European Space Agency (ESA) website for kids, you may be surprised not to find mention of American spacecraft such as Endeavor, Galileo, Voyager, Pioneer, and Challenger. In their place, meet CryoSat, Envisat, Rosetta, Columbus, Ariane-5 and more! There is no mention of John Glenn, Sally Ride, or Neil Armstrong; the heroes here include such greats as Vladimir Remek, Miroslav Hermaszewski, Samantha Cristoforetti, Andreas Mogensen, Christer Fugelsang, and Timothy Peake. Move over, NASA — make room for the ESA! You will definitely learn something new and different at this website! When you get to the site you will see some features. Use the menu toward the top of your screen to explore topics such as: Our Universe Life in Space Technology As you click each main topic, you will see a related photo; click on it to learn all about the planets, galaxies, space stations, life in space and more. Age Range: 5-12 (Grades K-6, with parental supervision) A production of the non-profit organization Math/Science Nucleus, this site offers free hands-on lessons and activities that integrate math, science, and technology for elementary grades.
Contents on today’s website is based on over 35 years of research on how children learn science content. The lessons have been designed for classroom use with the recognition that parents may use them for home study.
The Elementary Curriculum is a complete science program for every week of a child’s K-6 experience. It includes 3 lesson plans for 34 weeks integrating all science subjects through:
- Applied Science
- Universe Cycle
- Plate Tectonic Cycle
- Rock Cycle
- Water Cycle
- Life Cycle
In each cycle, there are links to objectives, vocabulary, materials needed, background, and procedure. There are also links to standards, a model test, and a dictionary.

| Exploring Caves Age Range: 4-8 (Grades K-3, with parental supervision) This 50-page PDF from the U.S. Geological Survey has free educational materials all about caves that can easily be tweaked for use in the homeschool environment. Learn about geology, cartography, and hydrology in a lighthearted story of a bat. This original 5-chapter fictional story introduces a wealth of information about caves through the adventure of two children and a talking bat. There are lesson plans, activity sheets, teacher instructions and coloring pages. The lessons include: What Is a Cave? Cave Stories – Tales of Adventure Find a Cave Cave Diagram Adapting to the Dark – Bats and PeopleWater Creates a Cave Cave Art and History and more! There is also a list of books, articles, special publications, music, and more. You’ll also find links to other educational resources. However, most of the links have changed. As it says at the top of the resource page: “URL’s (Web site addresses) often change unpredictably. If any of the given URL’s fail to work, do searches with names of organizations combined with relevant key words.” |
| Teachers TryScience Age Range: 10-18 (Grades 5-12, with parental supervision) This website is a collaborative effort between the New York Hall of Science, IBM Corporation, and TeachEngineering.org. It provides free, hands-on, project-based learning activities that require students to engineer solutions to problems by employing math, technology, and science concepts from more than one science discipline including physics, chemistry, and earth sciences. When you get to the site, you’ll see three lesson plans. Click “See All” to get to the rest. (There are currently almost 700!) Click on any one and a new page opens with the target grade (ages), the estimated time required for the project, the topics covered, goals, objectives and more. You’ll also find links to resources and materials that are needed, as well as comments from teachers who used the project in their classroom. Enjoy! |
