My family are avid animal lovers. My daughters dog Sam and my Saint Bernard both came from a Shelter. Sam and Chief were the best dogs ever in the entire world. I miss both of them but they are in Heaven with my daughter. I can tell you Suzzane would have loved Special Paws as much as Charlie and I did.
As soon as I heard about Special Paws: The Family List a heartwarming tale from Tracey Kusinitz Altman which follows two lovable shelter dogs as they daydream of their forever families and navigate life in their shelter surroundings.
I knew Special Paws would be a book Charlie and I would enjoy and want to share with my niece and nephew. Alyssa there mom is thinking about getting them a Puppy and Special Paws reinforced checking into Shelters for there forever dog
Special Paws is a colorful, beautifully illustrated children’s story which will encourage families to adopt, not shop, with proceeds benefiting the Special Paws nonprofit organization.
Once Charlie and I finished reading Special Paws we went to the Shelter to walk the dogs there and dropped off Dog Food and Toys. While at our Animal Shelter Charlie asked about setting a Fundraiser..
None of this would happened without Charlie reading Special Paws: The Family List. If you or someone you know loves animals then Special Paws is a much have book for you and your friends and family.
The Author did a amazing job of teaching us how the Shelter dogs were feeling. If we could have we would have adopted the dogs on the spot. I can’t wait to see if Tracey Kusinitz Altman has published other novels. If so you can bet Charlie and I will be purchasing the books not only for our library but our friends and family.
Dallas/Fort Worth, TX, July 1, 2019 — When a sleepy-eyed Boston awakes and finds herself in new surroundings, she is full of questions! Beside her is an engaging, friendly beagle named Hunter, who quickly becomes Boston’s friend and explains that they are in an animal shelter.
As their friendship deepens and their dreams of finding their forever-homes take shape, Hunter helps Boston create a very special list of everything she is looking for in a family.
Readers young and old will enjoy the playful dialogue — and maybe catch a glimpse of their own feelings toward family — as both dogs reveal what’s most important to them in a forever home.
Special Paws: The Family List, is the heartwarming new tale from Tracey Kusinitz Altman. The 38-page children’s book is beautifully illustrated in vibrant colors by Joseba Morales.
Inspired by Altman’s own experiences with adopting dogs from a local shelter, Special Paws is both entertaining and educational, and is sure to be enjoyed by children and dog lovers young and old.
Proceeds from the sale of the book will benefit the Special Paws nonprofit organization, which supports the efforts of area animal shelters.
Author:
Tracey Kusinitz Altman was 50 years old when she got her very first dog. Before going to the shelter to look for a pet, a friend had helped Altman put together a list of qualities that she wanted in a dog.
Boston, a beautiful terrier and pit bull mix, fit everything on the list and more. The spots on Boston’s back formed the shape of a heart, and for Altman it was love at first sight.
She drew from her own experience with the local animal shelter to write Special Paws, the first in a planned series of children’s books that feature shelter animals. She also founded Special Paws, a nonprofit that raises money to support animal shelters.
Who knew I could publish my first children’s book at 53?? LOL.
When I turned 50, my son wanted a dog. I had never had a dog in childhood or adulthood. So a good friend came over and helped Zachary and I write a list of what we wanted in a dog.
She told us about shelters and we had to go. We took that list to a shelter and found Boston. We fell in love instantly. A year after that, we found Harper at a dog park. She was with her foster family. One thing led to another, and she joined our family. #puppylove
My heart has been changed forever (and you dog people know what I mean). Understanding the shelter system and fostering put me on a passion path to support them.
First I gave money, then I attended events and in the beginning of 2019, I started volunteering at the SPCA in McKinney, Texas. It is a miracle I haven’t taken home 20 dogs yet!! #thoseeyes #ears #wigglebutts
As we started to adopt Harper, I was wondering what her list might look like for a family. This funny idea quickly became a passion to write a kid’s book that shelters can use as a fundraising tool.
I know shelters depend on donations and this could be a win/win for everyone. Families get a fun book to share with their kids. We start educating kids early on adopting dogs from shelters and the shelters win with additional revenue! #everyonewins
