Duck and Hippo Give Thanks

Review

Halloween is right around the corner then its time for Halloween. I would like to share a children’s book that teaches us to give thanks which is perfect for Thanksgiving reading. Then children’s book is called Duck and Hippo Give Thanks written by Jonathan London. I received a physical copy of the book in exchange for this review.

Charlie and I will by ourselves most of the day because David works until 3pm. Unless we go down to David’s mom’s. That is if she decided to cook which at the moment is up in the air. No only that a lot of times Granny Sherry doesn’t have food Charlie would eat. Or food that I like.

Charlie and I have decided this year we will Pizza or Nacho’s. When Charlie decides which one then I will take him to get the ingredients for our Thanksgiving Meal. Would you like to join us for our unconditional dinner?

Charlie and I sat down together to read DUCK AND HIPPO GIVE THANKS
together because we cooked dinner. I  know plenty of people eating by themselves. Charlie and I would like to invite  them to have dinner with us. If there able we would like to have everyone to bring there favorite food to share with one person.

Once everyone arrives Charlie plans on reading DUCK AND HIPPO GIVE THANKS
then they can see why we choose to host  a Potluck Meal. Which will explain why we had everyone bring there favorite meal to share. The book will teach everyone it’s better to give than receive.

After sharingDUCK AND HIPPO GIVE THANKS with David. David  let me know he would like to purchase a copy of  for his grandson Elijah and also his niece Payton. Once David was done talking I let him know I wanted to purchase a copy for my niece Lily and nephew Jason.

Charlie heard David and I talking and Charlie let me know he would like to purchase a couple copies of DUCK AND HIPPO GIVE THANKS to donate to the school he used to go to. As well give copies of the book to his friends for Christmas. After hearing this from David and Charlie I knew Duck and Hippo Give Thanks were a huge hit with my family. As well as a book we would need to add to our own Library.

Here’s another sweet friendship story with these two characters!

It’s the day before Thanksgiving, and Hippo has his heart set on having a good old-fashioned feast with Duck and their friends. Together, Duck and Hippo go shopping for food and invite Turtle, Elephant, and Pig to share the special day with them. Then they get everything ready. But while Hippo goes to bed dreaming of his good old-fashioned Thanksgiving, Duck is busy making her own plans. There’s going to be a BIG surprise—one that will remind Hippo of all he has to be thankful for. Join Duck and Hippo for a memorable celebration!

“The message of enjoying fellowship and valuing each individual’s contributions is a worthy one… Joyner’s anthropomorphic cartoon animals are cherry.” —Kirkus Reviews
I was raised a Navy Brat and moved every two or three years when I was growing up. Now I live in one place and travel to lots of other places. I started writing poems in college, got a M.A. in History, performed in a modern dance company, traveled the world, got married, had two sons, and when I started telling my boys, Aaron and Sean, stories I realized that I could write for children.

My first two books came out in the same week, in 1992, THIRTEEN MOONS ON TURTLE’S BACK and THE LION WHO HAD ASTHMA, soon followed by FROGGY GETS DRESSED. These books are still in print. FROGGY GETS DRESSED was the first of over twenty-eight Froggy books. The most recent one is FROGGY GOES TO GRANDMA’S. The next one will be FROGGY’S LEMONADE STAND (due May 15, 2018) followed by FROGGY FOR PRESIDENT! in 2019.

My Froggy books are funny and kids love them. But I also write other kinds of books, including wildlife books: HIPPOS ARE HUGE!OTTERS LOVE TO PLAY! (river otters). And most recently: PUP THE SEA OTTER (illustrated by my son Sean London). PUP THE SEA OTTER won the 2017 NATIONAL OUTDOOR BOOK AWARD (NOBA), the 2017 National Science Teachers Association Outstanding Children’s Trade Book Award, and the 2018 ILA/CBC Children’s Choice Award.

I’ve also written a middle grade novel trilogy: Aaron’s Wilderness Trilogy: DESOLATION CANYON, BELLA BELLA, and GRIZZLY PEAK, all illustrated by my son, Sean London, who is an animator. My picture book SLEEP TRAIN will be published 4/3/18 and FROGGY’S LEMONADE STAND will be published 5/15/18.

I started a new picture book series with DUCK AND HIPPO IN THE RAINSTORM, followed by DUCK AND HIPPO LOST AND FOUND. DUCK AND HIPPO GIVE THANKS will come out on 8/20/18, followed by DUCK AND HIPPO THE SECRET VALENTINE late 2018. I’ve published over 100 books since 1992, but now I only write poems for myself. My sons and my wife, Maureen, are my constant inspirations.

But I’m also inspired by young children, dogs, mountains, rivers, stars, trees, great cities, deserts, jungles, great food, dance, art, some sports, and the moon. And if anybody asks, Froggy c’est moi–but he’s also Aaron and Sean, and every kid I’ve ever met. Flop flop flop!
