The other night Charlie and I were watching tv when Charlie asked me if we could create Wrestling clothes for his Wrestling figures. I told Charlie that I would be willing to try as I had made Barbie clothes for Suzzane when she was little. After Charlie and I had our conversation I ended up talking to a friend of mine Thaleia Maher who reminded me that homeschool allows us to take a Sewing Class.
Thaleia reminded me Charlie could take a sewing class for Homeschool as I was preparing for back to school which I hadn’t thought of although I should have since I had taken Home Economics in school. I let Thaleia know Charlie wanted to create wrestling clothes for his wrestling figures. As we were talking she asked me if I had the material and sewing supplies we would need.
I let Thaleia know we didn’t and I would need to go shopping for material and patterns to make the clothes out of. Thaleia let me know to wait until I received the box she was sending us as she would put material inside the box Charlie could use to create his wrestling clothes with and Thaleia also let me know she would add the thread and a few other items we could use.
I was so excited I couldn’t wait to share this information with Charlie although I waited until David got home from work and then I sat down with Charlie and David and I let them know Thaleia was going to send a box of items but they would need to wait to see what all was inside it before we went shopping.
I would like to also let you know Thaleia sent us items we can use in our Garden another class Charlie will be participating in when Charlie goes back to school this year. So now I have a question for you what unusual or unique classes do your children take and why do they take them?
As you prepare for your children to go back to school I thought you might like to check out another article I composed.
Preparing Children for the First Day of School
I would like to invite you to meet Thaleia Maher on her blog Something 2 Offer
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
That is wonderful. I was able to take sewing in public school, too. I am hoping my boys learn as much as I did when it’s their turn to take the class 🙂
I took a class in high school and I learned to make a pillow and a skirt and then I forgot it all lol! I think this is great.
I wish I knew how to sew. It is not something I ever learned. Good for you teaching your kids how to sew. It will be useful when they get older.
It looks like he’s really enjoying the sewing class. I love the flexibility that homeschooling offers.
I think this is awesome. What a wonderful box to receive for gardening and sewing. Glad to see you are letting your son explore and learn to make things on his own.
I give anybody credit for home schooling it takes so much self reliance and discipline. My kids go to the neighborhood schools so it is at least close to home.
That is great you can do a sewing class. I bet my kids would love to take a class like that. They love seeing me create stuff with fabric.
I remember when I was in grades school we have sewing class. Not my favorite but it was fun doing. My mom is hands on to me as well when it comes to my academics.
Sewing is an important life skill that is all too often overlooked. I can hardly thread a needle, but my oldest is starting a fashion design program within her new high school next week!
So cool! I wish I knew how to sew! I learned in Home Ec, but it’s been ages. I wouldn’t know what to do now.
It’s so nice to be able to teach kids to sew. It’s something they could use when they’re older and living on their own. This is such a fun activity too!
I love how creative you can get with homeschooling. I think it really lets kids get so many different experiences!
I think sewing is something that everyone should know how to do. It’s truly a lifeskill that many people have no clue how to do! I’m glad your son knows how to sew!
I loved how I could adapt my homeschooling curriculum to my child’s needs and interests. Sewing is a great skill to learn.
I wish I could homeschool my kids! I do however teach them at home during summer with things like cooking and other things.
Basic sewing skills are a much needed skill. Our kids learned to sew buttons, hem their slacks and a few other basic sewing skills at an early age. It’s a skill that definitely comes in handy.
oh, wow! This is one of the many benefits of home schooling. I have high respect for parents who home schooled. Thanks for sharing!
My oldest daughter would love to have some creative flexibility with school to learn how to sew. This looks like such a fun after school activity for us!
I love so much about homeschool! That is why we switched to a more laid back charter school. It is a good fit for us and gives us more flexibility.
I have thought of checking into Charter Schools here and next year when Charlie goes into Middle School it might be what we do Debra because I don’t think I can teach him the things he needs to learn.
