DIY Coffee Scrub for a Youthful Skin

DIY Coffee Scrub for a Youthful Skin

Coffee – most people’s real reason for getting out of bed in the morning. Coffee’s rapport with a section of the population reads like the introductory scene of an anti-hero movie. While most people swear by its heart-racing capabilities, there’s also the not-to-glitzy bits about stained teeth and perhaps some mild addiction.

However, other than revving up your internals for the day ahead, coffee makes for a surprisingly effective facial scrub.

The benefits of using a DIY coffee scrub

  1.  Exfoliate

The skin is the first line of defense against the elements. During the day, the skin protects you against harmful UV rays, dust, and other pollution agents. These agents manifest themselves on the top layer of the skin in the form of dark spots, acne and uneven skin tone. Naturally, there are also lots of dead skin cells by day’s end. Coffee’s rough texture helps get rid of the dead skin cells giving you enviable glowing skin and a refreshed look.

      2.  Fending off wrinkles

It’s a paradox of life. The expressions you have on your face cause the skin to wrinkle up naturally. Other external environmental factors also contribute to accelerated aging. However, coffee has a loaf of antioxidants that get rid of the free radicals responsible for skin damage and accelerated aging.

  1.    Cellulite be gone

Over time, fats beneath the skin distribute unevenly, causing unsightly cellulite marks. Scientific studies show that caffeine helps to reduce the appearance of cellulite. Topical application of coffee helped break down the fats that caused cellulite and improved the condition of the skin by roughly 17%.

    4. Reducing puffiness

Some mornings you wake up, and your face is more puffed up than a pissed off fugu fish and may be due to the skin retaining excess water under the skin. Coffee acts as a natural diuretic. Due to its dehydrating effect, caffeine draws out excess water from the surface, leaving your face puff-free.

  1.    Anti-inflammation

Do you suffer from frequent breakouts? Breakouts leave bruises and scars on the skin. Such after-effects expose you to possible infection. Fortunately, the polyphenols and hydrocinnamic acid in caffeine have essential anti-inflammatory qualities that help combat breakouts to restore your skin coupled with coconut oil, known for its powerful restorative attributes, a DIY coffee scrub is just what you need to get your skin looking clear and bruise-free.

Directions

For every three tablespoons of coffee grounds, add one spoonful of sugar, one tablespoon of coconut oil. You can add a drop or two of lemon juice and a drop of your chosen essential oil. However, due to the acidic nature of lemon juice, it is recommended that you use lemon sparingly.  Mix all the ingredients in a bowl or mason jar until you have the desired consistency.

Application

If done correctly, the facial scrub should be a little corrosive but not so much that it damages your skin. Scoop out the scrub and rub gently in a circular motion around affected areas. For the best results, make sure your face is moist.

Rinse only with water. Use a cotton towel to pat dry.

Repeat this twice a week or as desired.

One of the advantages of this scrub is that it does not contain any perishable ingredients. (If it is lemon juice free) Therefore, you can make a big batch of it and store it for later.

As a precaution, test out the scrub on less-sensitive areas of the body first before committing to facial use.

Caffeine can get absorbed through the skin. Therefore, you need to consult a professional if you have conditions such as high blood pressure.
