Monday January 16th, Martin Luther King Day

The Mommies Reviews

Charlie returns to school tomorrow and  I wanted to make sure I had things Charlie could practice so he is ready for school. As I looked at the calendar this evening I noticed Monday January 16th is Martin Luther King.

As soon as I saw it was Martin Luther King Birthday I knew I wanted to find resources and books Charlie would be able to use to learn about Martin Luther King Jr for Charlie.

I can get Charlie to complete book reports giving Charlie  a chance to practice his handwriting and spelling. I was on Teachers Pay Teachers I found quite a few worksheets geared towards Martin Luther King.

I thought you might want to check these resources out as well for your children. If you take the time to check out the worksheets come back and let me know which ones you used in your school and why.

With Charlie and I signing up for the Reading Challenge earlier today I decided to check on Amazon for children’s books about Martin Luther King. I thought I would share them with  you. If you would like to purchase  books you know what they have.

I Have a Dream (Boo & CD) Hardcover

Experience history with this picture book of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s iconic speech, including an audio CD. This Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor Book will inspire young readers!

From Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s daughter, Dr. Bernice A. King: “My father’s dream continues to live on from generation to generation, and this beautiful and powerful illustrated edition of his world-changing “I Have a Dream” speech brings his inspiring message of freedom, equality, and peace to the youngest among us—those who will one day carry his dream forward for everyone.”

On August 28, 1963, on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington, Martin Luther King gave one of the most powerful and memorable speeches in our nation’s history. His words, paired with Caldecott Honor winner Kadir Nelson’s magnificent paintings, make for a picture book certain to be treasured by children and adults alike. The themes of equality and freedom for all are not only relevant today, 50 years later, but also provide young readers with an important introduction to our nation’s past. Included with the book is an audio CD of the speech

Picture Book of Martin Luther King

“Martin Luther King, Jr. was one of America’s great leaders. He was a powerful speaker, and he spoke out against laws which kept black people out of many schools and jobs. He led protests and marches demanding fair laws for all people.” Dr. King dreamed of a world free of hate, prejudice and violence. This book is about the life and ideals of an outstanding man.

For other books on Martin Luther King you can check out Amazon as they had a lot of other children’s books which Charlie and I could chose from. I can’t wait for Charlie to come and look with me so we can pick out books for my niece and nephew.
