September 13is National Peanut Day #NationalPeanutDay. I don’t know about you but Peanuts would make a nice snack for me. Although I would prefer them to be covered in #Chocolate but that doesn’t work on my diet. Neither does the Peanut Clusters recipe I shared with you below but David loves Peanut Clusters and were going to the movie tomorrow and I thought they would be a nice treat for David. Did you know there’s a very funny bit in the Marx Brothers’ classic film, “Duck Soup,” where Chico runs a Peanut Stand. We won’t give it away here but it’s something to watch on National Peanut Day, and before you say I don’t know where to watch the movie at check YouTube it might be on there. Isn’t it incredible that such a small Groundnut has everybody talking today!

Peanuts, are grown underground,  and they have a long history, originating in South America over 3,500 years ago. Peanuts can be eaten alone or mixed with Butter, Peanuts are used in virtually everything including  Soups and Ice Cream. Don’t even get us started on PB & J sandwiches which I will pass on. How about you? On National Peanut Day, grab a handful, of Peanuts salted or not, and savor the flavor of our a Peanut.

Recipe for Peanut Clusters

Prep Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 5 mins Additional Time: 30 mins Total Time: 45 mins

Servings: 36 Yield: 3 dozen

Ingredients

  • 1 (12 ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 (12 ounce) package peanut butter chips
  • 12 ounces peanuts

Directions

  1. Gather the ingredients.
  2. Place chocolate and peanut butter chips in the top of a double boiler over simmering water. Stir frequently, scraping down the sides with a rubber spatula to avoid scorching, until melted, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir peanuts into the chocolate and peanut butter mixture.
  4. Drop teaspoonfuls of mixture onto a waxed paper-lined baking sheet and refrigerate until firm, 30 to 45 minutes.
