I thought I would share a fantasy novel with magic thrown in called Becoming A Druid by Mike Mollman (Author) which I received a PDF copy of the book from Voracious Readers and the Author in exchange for this review. Becoming A Druid is full of magic, druids, tales of giants and elves, great world building and a non-stop adventure which will draw your into the series but be prepared as it gets dark at times and there is deaths in the book which can bother someone with depression like Charlie and I. I didn’t let that or thefact that the book was slow at times keep me from reading the book and sharing it with my family.
I believe in the series you may find much of yourself in the new young Druids’ adventures and difficulties. Grahame must be Grahame, even when he doesn’t wish to be. If you have ever gotten into trouble for doing the right thing, you can commiserate with Grahame. Trouble, daring and danger follow Grahame at every turn fighting for supremacy.
The setting of Britain around 300 BC well before the Romans ever came is very new to me but gave me new things to share with Charlie in our Homeschool Classes.. As well as the prominent magic and overarching storyline of needing to overcome a dark mage who employs mind control magic, the overall feel is very much epic fantasy.
The premise is that a slightly older than usual Druid apprentice (since he did not get along with his first two mentors) is sent on his Druid quest (by his much wiser third mentor) to retrieve a certain object in order to become a full Druid. The quest seems dangerous and tied to the Obsidian Mage who has been gaining power in the land recently and who the Druids are trying to oppose.
About the book: Grahme has wanted to be a druid for as long as he can remember. Talented but headstrong, he runs afoul of a despotic, mind-controlling mage during his initiation quest. Intrigue and distrust have turned the druids against him. Haggard and hunted, he must make impossible sacrifices or lose everything.
