Before I share our Homeschool Resources: Penguins I would like to ask you to check out more information on Penguins here celebrating World Penguin Day. As part of our Studies on Penguins I was thinking we might go on a Field Trip to the Zoo to see if they have Penguins. Would you like to join us? On the way home we can stop by the Library and then home to make Cookies. Would you like to join us?
Penguins are a group of aquatic flightless birds from the family Spheniscidae (/sfɪˈnɪsɪdiː, -daɪ/) of the order Sphenisciformes (/sfɪˈnɪsəfɔːrmiːz/).[4] They live almost exclusively in the Southern Hemisphere: only one species, the Galápagos penguin, is found north of the Equator. Highly adapted for life in the ocean water, penguins have countershaded dark and white plumage and flippers for swimming. Most penguins feed on krill, fish, squid and other forms of sea life which they catch with their bills and swallow whole while swimming. A penguin has a spiny tongue and powerful jaws to grip slippery prey.[5]
They spend about half of their lives on land and the other half in the sea. The largest living species is the emperor penguin (Aptenodytes forsteri):[6] on average, adults are about 1.1 m (3 ft 7 in) tall and weigh 35 kg (77 lb). The smallest penguin species is the little blue penguin (Eudyptula minor), also known as the fairy penguin, which stands around 30–33 cm (12–13 in) tall and weighs 1.2–1.3 kg (2.6–2.9 lb).[7] Today, larger penguins generally inhabit colder regions, and smaller penguins inhabit regions with temperate or tropical climates. Some prehistoric penguin species were enormous: as tall or heavy as an adult human. There was a great diversity of species in subantarctic regions, and at least one giant species in a region around 2,000 km south of the equator 35 mya, during the Late Eocene, a climate decidedly warmer than today.[8]

Monday:
Write your Spelling words 5 times each in ABC order in your Spelling Notebook.
Tuesday:
Use your Spelling words inside a sentence you create.
Wednesday:
Write a story using your Spelling words and include a illustration and description of your story inside your Spelling Journal.
Thursday:
Take a Pre-Spelling Test if you make a 100 if you missed any of the words write them 5 times each and re-take the test on Friday. If you make a 100 then you should take Friday off and do something fun.
Friday:
Charlie will re-take his Spelling Text if he missed any words on his Pre-Spelling Test on Thursday. If he made a 100 Charlie will take the day off and do something fun. Would you like to join us?
Reading Class:
Charlie will be reading All Things Penguins For Kids: Filled With Plenty of Facts, Photos, and Fun to Learn all About Penguins and Penguins of the World for 30 minutes a day Monday through Thursday. Each day Charlie will write down 2 facts he learned about Penguins in his Reading Journal.
On Friday Charlie will turn the facts into a report he will read out loud to his parents.
Math Class:
Charlie will us the facts he has found on Penguins to create 5 math problems for someone in his home to work out. Then they will create 5 math problems for Charlie to work out.
Charlie will write the math problems inside his Math journal.
PE Class:
In our PE Class to get in exercise in a fun and unique way Charlie will walk and act like a Penguin for 30 minutes.
To make your walk more authentic Charlie and I will go to a Costume Store for a Penguin Costume to wear during his performance.
Charlie will include a picture of him dressed up with a description inside his PE journal.
Drama Class:
Charlie will watch a Documentary on Penguins or a movie of his choice for #FamilyMovieNight on Tuesday.
Charlie will be acting out his favorite scene from the movies for his parents. Charlie will include a photo and description of his performance in his Drama Journal.
Music Class:
Charlie will research songs online and see if he can find any songs about Penguins to perform for his parents. If there isn’t any songs Charlie will write and perform a song he has written.
Charlie will write the lyrics to the songs inside his Music Journal and include a phot of his performance in his Music Notebook.
Art Class:
Charlie will be collecting all the information he has gathered on Penguins and create a piece of Art using different mediums of Art. Charlie will include a description and photo for his Art Journal that will be showcased in the Art Show he is hosting at the end of the year.
Cooking Class:
In our Cooking Class we will be making Cookies and Sandwiches in the shapes of Penguins.
For a Field Trip we will visit local stores for the ingredients for your snacks and cookies cutters in the shapes of Penguins.
Charlie will write the recipes for his sandwiches and Cookies inside his Cooking Journal that will be turned into a Cookbook at the end of the day.
I found Penguin Cooking Class Coloring Book which Charlie can use in his Cooking Class and also his Art Class.
