Today is National Pecan Day #NationalPecanDayimafes in our Homeschool Charlie will be learning about Pecans which is part of our Homeschool resources we would like to share with you. For a Field Trip you could visit a Plant Store and pick up a Pecan Tree to plant. For our family the LORD blessed both my sister and my mother in law with Pecan Trees Giving our family the opportunity to pick and shell Pecans. Would you like to join us. Then in Charlie’s Homeschool Baking Class we can make a Pie, Cookies or Candy. The sky’s the limit as long as the recipe contains Pecans.
The pecan (/pɪˈkæn/ pih-KAN, also US: /pɪˈkɑːn, ˈpiːkæn/ pih-KAHN, PEE-kan, UK: /ˈpiːkən/ PEE-kən; Carya illinoinensis) is a species of hickory native to the Southern United States and Northern Mexico in the region of the Mississippi River.[2]
The tree is cultivated for its seed primarily in the U.S. States of Georgia,[3] New Mexico,[4] and Texas,[5] and in Mexico. The seed is an edible nut used as a snack and in various recipes, such as praline candy and pecan pie. The Pecan is the state nut of Alabama, Arkansas, California, Texas and Louisiana, and is also the state tree of Texas.
Pecan derives from an Algonquian word variously referring to pecans, walnuts, and hickory nuts.[6] There are many pronunciations, some regional and others not.[7] There is little agreement in the United States regarding the “correct” pronunciation, even regionally.[8]
In 1927, however, the National Pecan Growers Association acknowledged variant pronunciations while designating one as official and correct: “pronounced as though spelled pea-con … those in the habit of using any other pronunciation therefore be requested henceforth to adopt exclusively the pronunciation above specified above and hereby adopted by the Association.”[9]

Monday:
Write your Spelling words 5 times each in your Spelling Journal in ABC order.
Tuesday:
Use your spelling words in a sentence or create a story using the spelling words inside your reading journal and include a illustration for the story.
Wednesday:
Write your Spelling words inside your Spelling Journal and include a definition for each word.
Thursday:
Take a Pre-Spelling Test if you missed any of the words write them 5 times each and re-take the test on Friday.
Friday:
If you made a 100 take Friday off and do something fun. If you missed some of the words retake your Spelling Text if you missed any of the words write them 10 times each.
Reading Class:
Charlie will be reading Pecan: America’s Native Nut Tree for 30 minutes each day in his Reading Class The write 2 facts he learned inside his reading journal.
Friday; Charlie is to turn the facts into a report to read out loud to his parents.
Math Class:
Look up facts on Pecans and turn them into 5 math problems for someone in your home to work out.
Then have them use the facts they collected to create 5 math problems for you to work out.
Write the math problems inside your math journal.
Drama Class:
Watch a documentary on Pecans and write down 5 facts you learned to turn into a report you will read out loud to your parents. Include a photo of your performance for your Drama Journal.
Music Class:
Charlie will look up songs featuring Pecans to learn and perform for his parents.
If there isn’t a song Charlie likes then he will write a song and perform it for his parents.
No, matter which way Charlie goes he will write the lyrics to the music inside his Music Journal and include a photo of his performance.
Art Class:
Collect all the information on Pecans you’ve collected and create a piece of Art showcasing Pecans.
Include a description of what you drew inside your Art Journal which will be displayed in the Art Show you will be hosting at the end of the year.
Cooking Class:
Create your favorite recipe featuring Pecans and write the recipe inside your Cooking Journal that will be tuned into a cookbook at the end of the year. Include a photo of your creation.
