Anxious Girl is about the character Mel who suffers a panic attack in the grocery store. After the panic attack Mel finds herself in the hospital arguing against being checked into a clinic by her parents. Like we all know work can be been stressful but Mel had her routine, her friends, and a solid case load. Does she enjoy it? Well, not really.
Then Mel stumbles across an invitation from her estranged Aunt to spend some time with her in Azores and Mel decides that it sounds way better than a clinic. Once Mel arrives at her Aunts finds that the anxiety doesn’t magically disappear. Mels attempts at hiding her anxiety from her Aunt aren’t as easy as she expects. Mel spends her days with a local photographer, Carlos, and Mels evenings with her Aunt’s constant questions, Mel has to take a real look at what she wants her life to be moving forward.
I love how the Author manages to capture multiple facets of the feminine experience in a way that any female can relate to including judgment from others which I’ve dealt with. The pressure to have it all just like most of us in real life have dealt with at least one.. Being bullied which not only affects women but men and children I wish somehow someway we could stop bullying but that doesn’t look like it will ever happen and its why its keep to showcase bullying in books we read,
The Author also touches on dating violence, which no, one I know personally has had to ever deal with but I know it happens from Social Media and this story helped me understand more about dating violence. If you’re a perfectionist, or if you’ve never feel quite good enough, or really care what others think, or you are a people-pleaser Anxious Girl is the book for you.
No it isn’t a sad book its a fun quick read that teaches many lessons including how to deal with panic attacks which I hate to admit but I’ve been having more and more of them. I would like to thank the AUTHOR for sharing this amazing book with us and allowing me to get out of my head for a bit and forget all the issues I’ve been dealing with.
