I would like to share a new book I picked out to read last week. The book is called A Dash of Romance (Romantic Encounters Book 1) written by Paullett Golden (Author) and this is the first in the series. A Dash of Romance whisk us away to Devonshire in 1795 when we meet Abbie, a vicar’s daughter and closeted writer dreaming like a lot of young girls of a star-crossed romance. Instead, the son of an elderly woman looking for a live-in companion offers her a proposal of marriage to get his own mother off his back. This gentleman has no interest in Abbie, and she has no interest in him.
The question is how does a woman reaching the limits of marriageable age which is 24 do? Well she tells the gentleman who is a Lord that she is already engaged, describing the main character of the novel she is working on and her ideal mate. Creating a lie she has to live with and we all know one lie leads to another lie until your caught.
Through a series of coincidences, the man the young lady describes actually exists, and Abbie and her new, fake fiancée must figure out how to disentangle themselves from each other without ruining their respective reputations. Before you ask I’m not going to tell you if there is a happily ever after but we all know how romances end.
As you begin to read the book your going to come upon mistaken identity, fake engagement, elaborate stories within the story, and you will find yourself not wanting to put the book down. I love that the book allowed me to finish the story in just a couple hours and it never lagged and kept me on my toes throughout the story.
A Dash of Romance for most of us would be categorized as an anthology or historical romance ie fiction but there are 17 chapters of Abbie’s story followed by various flash fiction pieces. The flash fiction was good, but since there were standalone and didn’t seem to have anything to do with Abbie’s story, it felt jarring to put at the end of the romance story and it makes me question what the Author was thinking.
About the book:
With quills and fantasies, they write their future.
Percival Randall lives an uncomplicated life of luxury, as he likes it. Not even an ultimatum requiring marriage can tip the scales. A conniving young lady who compromises his name to force a betrothal, however, is an impediment to happiness Percival must confront.
Abigail Walsley dreams of publishing novels rather than marrying dashing heroes. An unexpected proposal and a subsequent Banbury tale tumble her into a betrothal with a man she has never met. Following her dreams proves a challenge with a marriage of inconvenience on the horizon.
This is the love story of Percival and Abigail, two dreamers who write their love story one scene at a time.
From second chance romances to mistaken identities, experience A Dash of Romance in this collection of one short novel and fourteen bonus flash fiction pieces.
