I hate to admit it but I barely remember 2018 and honestly didn’t remember anything about this Fire but through the story the Author has compiled I felt like I was there. Infact it took me back to the fire that took my childhood room away from me. Along with the fire at my grandmothers home that took all the things I had of hers and then the fire at my parents house which I am sure isn’t anything like what these people went through but still to this day I have bad dreams about the fires.

I wish my parents had knew about the resources the Author has shared with us which would have helped with our grieving. I plan on sharing the book with Charlie and having his read it when we study Fire Prevention in our Homeschool Home Economics course because if he ever goes through a fire he will be prepared where I wasn’t.

The stories in this book brought me to tears more times than I can count but the perseverance and resilience of them has taught me to not give up and that as long as we put one foot in front of the other we can and will survive tragedies like the Fire I will be prepared to help others and can even teach a class if I decided to using the tips and resources in the book. Even though I live in the City this can happen here in the blink of an eye.

About the Book:

Stories of Tragedy Turned to Triumph and Making Meaning from Trauma

On November 8, 2018, California experienced its deadliest fire in the history of the State. More than one hundred fifty-three thousand acres of land, farms, and towns were decimated, close to one hundred people lost their lives, and tens of thousands of people fled from their homes never to return. Life as they knew it was changed forever. In a few short hours, plans, visions and dreams were erased.

Sifting Through the Ashes contains true stories of trauma, tragedy, and resilience told by those affected by the 2018 Camp Fire in Northern California. Each story in this memoir recounts the lived experiences, thoughts, feelings, and implications from the survivors themselves.

This book is designed to help anyone who has undergone trauma of any kind, devastation, and hopelessness to learn to cope with disaster or grief, written from the perspective of survivors, first responders, and therapists. Though towns are being rebuilt, the trauma of the 2018 Camp Fire echoes in the hearts and minds of those who lived it.
