Guardians of Rescue need support to give dogs a chance to live
SMITHTOWN, New York – (October 11, 2023) –Those familiar with puppy mills know how awful they are and the conditions in which animals are typically found. Guardians of Rescue saw things firsthand when they worked with law enforcement and animal control to rescue dogs and horses from a backyard puppy mill property in Colbert County, Alabama. The conditions the animals were living in and they were being treated, is enough to make people cry and for the animals to wish they could be given a chance at life.
“When people buy a cute puppy without checking where it was bred, they support the torture on these poor dogs,” explains Robert Misseri, founder of Guardians of Rescue. “The animals were suffering and living in complete hell on earth. I’m glad we stepped in to help rescue them and try to give them a chance at life.”
The group participated in rescuing 55 dogs from the puppy mill, including several newborn puppies. The property was filthy, littered with decomposing animal carcasses and cages filled with slime and feces, the conditions were just terrible. There were 29 deceased horses and numerous dead dogs visible on the property. The animals that were able to be rescued were in heartbreaking situations, with them needing medical care. They were covered in fleas, parasites, and ticks, feces, and living in deplorable conditions that no animals should be in.
Sadly, it is not one of the worst animal abuse rescue cases in which Guardians of Rescue have participated. Since the pandemic, puppy mill rescues have become more frequent. In addition to the puppy mill rescues they have participated in, they always look for others to help shut them down and save the animals. The dogs rescued from the Alabama property desperately need medical care. Guardians of Rescue relies on the compassion of those in the community to help support their mission so they can give them all the care they need and a chance at life.
“We can’t do what we do without the generosity of donations from caring people,” added Misseri. “Please donate what you can to help these animals and give them a chance at a better life.”
Guardians of Rescue are urging people not to support puppy mills because they continue their horrendous practice of them. Often, people will see a dog advertised online for sale, not knowing it is coming from a puppy mill. It is essential to learn how to spot one.
Here are some tips for spotting a puppy mill:
· Not being able to see the home where the puppy is coming from or be able to meet the parents.
· Multiple breeds are available to choose from, and they will not usually have any veterinary records.
· The prices are lower than what the type of dog would typically cost.
· There is little to no paperwork or contract to take the dog.
· The breeder always has an abundance of dogs to choose from.
· The dog is often listed for sale online on social media.
