I would like to share a new self- help for women which shows us why we must become a advocacy for our own health. Sidelined How Women Manage & Mismanage Their Health by Susan Salenger I received a copy of in exchange for this review.
The closer I get to 60 the more I worry about my health and not being here when Charlie grows up. Which goes back to my mom passing away when she was 57 from Cancer. Which has hit almost everyone in my mom’s family or health disease. Although, my dad lived to 80 and I keep telling myself I can to just as my mother and father law are as he is almost 90 now.
Sitting in my chair as night with my hip/ lower back hurting and my side bothering me more times than not. I keep thinking I need to go to the doctor. Not having insurance I can’t make myself go because we don’t have the money and can’t get Medicaid because David makes to much. Which I also let affect Charlie’s health as he needs a checkup and a visit to the dentist.
I believe the LORD was sending me a wakeup call when he sent me the press release for Sidelined: How Women Manage * Mismanage Their Health. Its time I took my life back and I am going to get Charlie into the dentist and myself to the doctor asap. You can bet when I walk into his office I will have this book under my arm.
As well as discuss the book with David and go over how she researched examples and shared detailed resources while using real world anecdotes, case studies, and historical facts with us. I found this novel wasn’t a dry science or health book, but the novel reads more like a series of short stories that is hard to put down. Come check out the message of self-advocacy is essential for women, a group that tends to put others first and yes, I am sure your like me and do the same. Which is also what my sister does and why I plan on giving her her own copy of the book for Mother’s Day.
About:
DON’T MAKE ANOTHER HEALTHCARE DECISION WITHOUT READING THIS BOOK
“If men had cramps, they’d have cured this by now…”
“I told my doctors about my pain for years, but they told me it was all in my head…”
“My doctor removed my IUD without anesthesia because ‘there aren’t any nerve endings in there.’ Boy, was he wrong!”
These and countless other comments from women who’ve suffered at the hands of the healthcare industry are frighteningly common… but they don’t have to be.
Sidelined: How Women Manage & Mismanage Their Health discloses how women have been marginalized and hesitate to take control over their own healthcare. But what’s behind this nationwide medical crisis? Too often, women downplay or ignore their symptoms to avoid being “difficult,” often blaming themselves for serious illness.
The end result could be inferior care, which can lead to serious consequences.
In Sidelined, writer and researcher Susan Salenger explains why women are misdiagnosed more often than men, and why their symptoms often go unrecognized or even disputed. This book teaches readers how to take charge of their health, make informed decisions, and leave their appointments with answers instead of just questions.
Knowing how to advocate for your own healthcare can mean the difference between healthy outcomes and years of needless agony, or even death.
This important women’s health book equips readers with the knowledge, language, and skill sets they need to overcome the gender bias that is present in the medical industry and get the best healthcare possible.
Meet the Author: Susan Salenger
Susan Salenger was born and raised in Los Angeles, and for more than twenty-five years owned Salenger Films, which produced corporate training and development films and distributed them around the world, with her husband. Sue wrote the scripts and the workbooks that accompanied the films. Once her children had grown up and she had some time for herself, Sue took some anthropology classes at UCLA. Her final project for one of those classes was a study of women who had undergone hysterectomies; that study was the catalyst for this book.
Sue’s wonderful husband has passed away, but she has two fabulous daughters and four incredible grandchildren. They all live in Petaluma, California, and see each other often.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
