Real Texas Cafe

The Mommies Reviews

Heading to Dallas for our Movie Premier the other night I knew we would need to stop somewhere to eat. I let David know I wanted to try Real Texas Cafe which we always pass. David said every time I pass by it doesn’t look like it’s open. I let David know that would be okay because we could stop and if they weren’t we could go on to our designation as we would pass other restaurants on our way to the event.

Real Texas Cafe Mid Cities, Texas
Real Texas Cafe serves food like mama used to make.

We pulled into the parking lot and it was empty. David got out and read the hours on the sign. Then David opened the door and they were open. I loved the way they had the entrance decorated. Then you walk in and see a table with Horse heads that will take your breath away. We walked on inside which has plenty of waiting room You wouldn’t be crowded her on a busy day.

The hostess came to seat us, and we walked past the Dessert case which I had to stop and check out. They had German Chocolate Cake. I purchased a slice for my best friend Debbie, and she said the Cake was really good. If we go back I plan on getting a slice of the Cake for me and Cheesecake for David.

On the way to the table, I stopped to look at the menu board. We got our menus, and they serve breakfast and lunch. I had a hard time choosing what I wanted. I do want to come back on Sunday for Pot Roast, but they are only open till 2 then and David is still at work at that time. I might have to take my sister to lunch. My best friend Debbie spends Sundays with her family, and I wouldn’t want to bother her.

I ordered Sweet Tea which comes with free refills and Charlie asked for a Dr. Pepper and David asked for Water. The Dr. Pepper was nice and cold. We loved that the drink didn’t have to much Syrup. I loved my Sweet Tea which was perfectly sweet. I didn’t have to water it down or add more Sugar to the Tea.

David decided on Chicken Fried Steak and Double Fries and our meal comes with a complimentary Salad of Lettuce and Cheese. David asked for Ranch. I asked for French on my Salad which they did have. I like that it was a true French Dressing not Catalina. The Salad was enough for me to take home for lunch the next day.

I ordered the Hamburger Steak with Brown Gravy with Mashed Potatoes and the Gravy on the Side with Mac and Cheese. I liked that the Potatoes didn’t have skin on them because David and Charlie don’t like that while I do. The Potato were real Mashed Potato not Instant. The Mac & Cheese was very good although David didn’t like it. What can I say men don’t know what is good.

My Hamburger Steak was enough for two meals. I liked knowing the meat was fresh not frozen and cooked to order. They Grav had a very good taste, and their Brown Gravy wasn’t salty. My Steak came with Grilled Onions, but they were big pieces of Onion. I would have liked to have had them cooked a little more. I hate that they were on the Steak not inside, but everyone makes Hamburger Steak that way. Which stinks and makes me want my grandma Dorie.

Our meal also came with Rolls or Cornbread. I asked for a Roll and so did David. They were pretty big and so soft and not over cooked. I loved that you could tell they were homemade Yeast Rolls. David was nice and even let me have his Roll. I can’t wait to bring my sister to try the Rolls and I should ask David to order some for Easter and pick them up on his way home.

I would have been fine just having these for Dinner with Butter. I would like to go back and try the Cornbread which I want to see if its Sweet or not because that is what Charlie and I like our Cornbread to be. Before you ask what Charlie did eat, he had eaten a Pizza earlier and didn’t want anything. So I have to bring him back.

Our waitress went above and beyond to make sure all of her customers were taken care of. We didn’t have to ask for anything and our orders was right the first time. I loved the decorations and how light and bright the restaurant is. There is a big dining room and a small dining room. The restrooms were spotless. Our cashier was kind and waited for me to share on social media allowing us to save a dollar per meal which was a Godsend.
