Autumn Equinox – Fall begins! – date varies

When is the Autumnal Equinox? September 22nd, 2022; September 23rd, 2023; September 22nd, 2024; September 22nd, 2025; September 22nd, 2026; September 23rd, 2027; September 22nd, 2028

The Autumnal Equinox signals the official beginning of Fall. Which is the point where there are exactly 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness at the Equator. If you live anywhere else, however, you will see a little bit more or a little bit less than 12 hours of daylight. The daylight hours are dwindling and will continue to do so until we reach the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year and the start of Winter.

In ancient times, the Autumn Equinox was cause for a variety of Pagan Festivals, among them the celebration of the birth of Mabon, the son of Mordon, the Goddess of the Earth.

This is also a time to celebrate with a variety of Fall or Harvest Festivals. People enjoy Fall Festivals as they sense the closure of a great Summer Season and the coming of a long Winter. The Fall Festivals are the last of the great outdoor events until Spring. Just getting there is half the fun as you drive through hills and forests ablaze in fall color. Let’s get out and enjoy these Festivals.

Speaking of Fall festivals, the Pumpkin Festivals and weigh-offs are among the best and biggest. If your ready to go just search online in your area for Pumpkin Festivals or Farms/

You may find it interesting that in the Pagan sites you surf through, they talk about altars and sacrifices to the Gods. In the literal definition, Pagans do not believe in God.

How to Celebrate Autumnal Equinox

  • Get out and enjoy the Fall Weather while it lasts.
  • Don’t wait or procrastinate get your Fall projects done.
  • Be a “Leaf Peeper and go out on an Autumn Foliage Drive.
  • Hike through the Woods to enjoy the Fall Colors.

Business Women’s Day– always observed on September 22

C’mon ladies, let’s break the glass ceiling. Business Women’s Day recognizes the value and contribution of women in the business world. The roots of Business Women’s Day goes back to the late 1940s. While men were off fighting World War II, women filled the void in the workforce.

The returning soldiers found the women eager to have their men return. But, many women were not anxious to return to traditional roles in the home. Since this time, women’s roles and contributions in the workforce have grown and evolved.

Currently, women can be found in all sorts of positions, from top corporate officers to the Vice President of the United States. However, compensation and promotion still lag behind men in many areas. Lt’s put an end to this discrepancy.

History and Origin of Business Women Day

Hilary A. Bufton Jr. and three Kansas City businesswomen founded the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) on September 22nd, 1949.  The first Business Women’s Day was celebrated in 1982.

In 1983 a joint Congressional resolution was passed and signed by President Ronald Reagan proclaiming September 22nd as Business Women’s Day. President Ronald Reagan also issued Proclamation 5532 on American Business Women’s Day, in 1986.

Donating to the Elephants support is a great way to show your appreciation.

Show these Pachyderms at your local Zoo how much you love them, by serving them a special treat. Did you know Elephants like Pumpkins! Especially big pumpkins.

History and Origin of Elephant Appreciation Day

Mission Media Inc. created Elephants Appreciation Day in 1996, largely because these Pachyderms are large and a whole lot of other great things. The founder, Wayne Hepburn, received a paperweight of Elephants on Parade from his daughter as a gift. Wayne Hepburn became fascinated by Elephants and he amassed a huge collection of Elephant books and paraphernalia. Wayne Hepburn fascination and love of Elephants, led to the creation of this holiday so you and I can stop and enjoy Elephants.

Hobbit Day– always observed on September 22nd

September 22nd is Hobbit Day a holiday to really enjoy. Hobbit Day is the birthday of Frodo and Bilbo Baggins, two of the main Hobbit characters from The Lord of the Rings. Did you know there is a Hobbit Week, which occurs on the Sunday through Saturday where Hobbit Day falls.

Hobbits are little guys, and little gals, just two to four feet tall. Hobbits are our heroes in the Lord of the Rings movies, performing great acts of heroism and courage. Notably, Hobbits go around barefoot and eat seven meals a day. Hobbits also like to dance, have parties, and enjoy fireworks. The movie “The Fellowship of the Ring” opened in this manner, celebrating Bilbo Baggins’s birthday.

You can celebrate Hobbit Day, by going to a Lord of the Rings movie or reading any of the Author J.R.R. Tolkien’s books that include Hobbits. You can hold a Hobbit party and don’t forget the fireworks. You may also choose to walk around barefoot all day. Or you celebrate this holiday by enjoying seven meals.

UK’s National Fitness Day – Fourth Thursday in September

Did you know today is National Fitness Day in the United Kingdom. National Fitness Day in the United Kingdom was created to celebrate the fun of fitness and physical exercise. According to the creators, this holiday is intended to “inspire people to commit to changing their routines by adding physical exercise and workouts for a lifetime of better health”.

Most people know full well, that physical exercise and a regular routine of working out leads to a healthier, more energetic life. Perhaps best of all, working out can extend your life by many, many years. Why is it so hard to do? Why is it so easy to slip and get away from taking the best of care of our bodies? For one thing, it takes time and dedication. We all have busy schedules and it is an easy “cop out” to say we’re too busy to go to the gym. Secondly, going to the refrigerator to grab a bite to eat or a bottle of beer, is much easier than working out or jogging for a half hour or so. Walking back and forth to the refrigerator is exercise, isn’t’ it!?

Today, the excuses must stop. Today is a call to action, a call to help you to live years longer and to live healthier for longer. Put on your jogging shorts and shoes and hit the pavement. Or, head to the gym and begin to tone up those muscles, while you improve your Lung capacity and Heart health. Before your head hits the pillow tonight, you have one more task that you must perform. Pull out your calendar for the month and pencil in a regular and routine time on your calendar to continue what you’ve started today. Better still, mark it on your calendar in ink, so you can’t erase it!

How to Celebrate UK National Fitness Day

  • Go to the gym for exercise.
  • Dust off your treadmill and get a workout.
  • Take a jog outdoors.
  • Join a friend in a long hike.

Related Holidays

There are two “National Fitness” holidays. One in the U.S. in May. The other is in the United Kingdom, and is celebrated in September. It is great to have a day in these two Countries to promote physical health and well being. However, this is an issue for all human beings all over the Planet. We might suggest that the creators of these two important holiday events, get together to expand this to an international holiday held on a single date. Short of that, we encourage people all over the world to celebrate both of these holidays by doing things to get healthy and to stay healthy.

History and Origin of UK National Fitness Day

This holiday event in the United Kingdom was created in 2014 which was initiated by Sanofi and PPP Health Care. It is the biggest celebration of physical activity in the United Kingdom.

This holiday is referred to as a “National” Day. Unfortunately, we cannot confirm this as we have no access to historical records of the British parliament and we also have not heard of any proclamation from Queen Mum about this holiday.

Thank you,
