International Beer Day is a holiday to celebrate and savor the world’s most popular Alcoholic beverage. Raise a glass of Beer today to toast breweries and bartenders. International Beer Day is truly a global celebration, enjoyed by people in over 50 Countries around the World.

Men and woman of course, have enjoyed Beer since about 6,000 B.C. when ancient civilizations even referred to Beer as a food staple. Did you know there are two categories of Beer: Lager and Ale, and thankfully hundreds, if not thousands of varieties. Why there’s a Beer variety for almost any and all discriminating drinkers. The growth of small, local Micro-breweries, has resulted in a wide range of new and exciting varieties.

The goals for International Beer Day are:

  1. Gather your family and enjoy a Beer to enjoy the taste of Beer.
  2. Celebrate and recognize breweries and bartenders.
  3. Celebrate all the Beers of the world.

Here are some ways to participate in International Beer Day:

Origin of International Beer Day:

The Association of California Brewers created this holiday in 2007, in Santa Cruz, California.

From 2017-2012, the Association of California Brewers established this holiday on August 5th. In 2013, they changed the date to the first Friday of August. Presumably, they did this to allow us to celebrate, and not have to get up to go to work the next day.

” The History and Origin of  National Oyster Day:

Our research did not uncover the creator of this National Oysters Day, or when this holiday was created. We suspect it was either someone in the fishing industry looking to promote Oysters, or a Chef who wanted everyone to enjoy this culinary Seafood treat.

National Underwear Day

National Underwear Day is today time to put on clean bra and panties, tighty whities or boxers, and go out to celebrate National Underwear Day.

According to their website, Freshpair, Inc., the founders of this holiday, celebrates every year by “holding New York City model events, massive underwear giveaways, a pop-up shop in Columbus Circle, and a Times Square runway show.”

In 2013, Freshpair organized over 800 people dressed in their underwear in NYC’s Times Square, to break the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people in their underwear. Believe it or not, this was not enough to break the Guinness World Record . But, thanks to this event, a new holiday was born.

Today is a great opportunity to strut your favorite t-shirts, bras, panties, tighty whities and boxers. Do so in good taste.

The History and Origin of  National Underwear Day:

Freshpair, an internet company, founded National Underwear Day on August 5th, 2003.

We did not find any documentation confirming this to be a “National” holiday and we found no congressional records or presidential proclamation. We suspect our national government would not proclaim this as an official “National” day. But, considering today’s leaders, we could be wrong.

National Water Balloon Day – The first Friday in August

It’s early August and the Weather is still sizzling hot. The humidity is up there, too. I’ve got a great way for you and your family to chill out. All you need is your bathing suit, a bunch of latex balloons and Water. With these few essentials, its time to get wet as you celebrate National Water Balloon Day. This is a holiday that people of almost all ages can participate. The littlest tykes and often elderly folk are among the few who may opt out of participating. However, moms and dads, aunts and uncles, as well as plenty of grandparents are often full participants in the Water Balloon fight. If you are hosting a Water balloon war, once grandpa tosses a Water balloon at a participant, grandpa becomes a fair target!

How to Celebrate National Water Balloon Day

Like most holidays, its easy to figure out what to do on this holiday. Put on your bathing suit. Make up plenty of Water balloons in advance. Gather family and have fun with this holiday.

  • We challenge you to a Water balloon war! Participating in a Water balloon fight is loads of fun. The more participants the merrier. Divide the participants into two or more teams. Make certain to give each person or team the same number of Water balloons. Then, let them fly.
  • Play Water Balloon Toss a Summertime game. Participants pair up in twos. Then, each duo is given a Water balloon. All participants are lined up in two lines at the same distance facing their partner. Each recipient takes one step back and launches the Water balloon to his or her partners. The object is to catch the Water balloon without breaking the balloon. When the balloon breaks, your team is out. The process is repeated until only one team remains. Make sure to have a prize for the winning duo.

Balloon Trivia

  • Michael Faraday invented modern latex balloon in 1824. Michael Faraday filled the balloons with hydrogen for use in some of his experiments.
  • Some people call water balloons “water bombs”.
  • The first water balloons were actually waterproof socks. Invented by Edgar Ellington in 1950. Edgar Ellington was looking for a waterproof sock to help avoid trench feet.
  • Before latex balloons were invented, people made balloons by inflating Pig bladders or Animal intestines.
  • Did you know water balloons are banned in South Africa, India and a few other Countries?
  • A Sheep, a Duck and a Rooster were the first living beings to fly in a hot air balloon.

The University of Kentucky holds the current Guinness World Record for Largest Water Balloon Fight. In  2011, the fight included 8,957 participants and 175,141 water balloons.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates

History and Origin of National Water Balloon  Day:

National Water Balloon Day was created in 2019. The town of Newmarket, New Hampshire created this day as a national holiday.

While a town government declared this to be a “National” day, we did not find any documentation confirming this to be a true “National” day. We found no congressional records or presidential proclamation.  However, we won’t nitpick on the details. Instead, we will cool off today with a water balloon war.

Work Like a Dog Day

Work Like a Dog Day honors and recognizes the hardest working among us.

Some people skate by, doing as little as possible. Others, do only what they have to. Others still work like a dog. While work is to be done, they dig in relentlessly. They seldom take a break until the task is completed.

We want to make sure to differentiate between “Work-A-Holics” and those who “Work Like a Dog”. Work-A-Holics are always working, even though they may not be working hard. Those who work like a dog, work very hard while they are working. But, they do not work all of the time.

Today is a day to show appreciation for those who carry more than their load, and work like a dog. You can also honor them by working like a dog today.
