8 Reasons to Make India Your Next Travel Destination

India is a vast South Asian country with a uniquely rich culture. It has the second largest population in the world with over 1.2 billion people as of July 2012.Here are a few reasons why you should make India your next travel destination;

  1. Because of its location, it experiences periods of heavy rain called Monsoon. Many tourists like to avoid the Monsoon but it is, in fact, the best time to travel as you will have most sights to yourself. During this time, you get cheaper hotel rates and this is about 50% less than you would get during the main season. This is such an economic rate as you will still get the main season class experience and save so you can do more activities.
  2. During this season, you get close to Mother Nature as you get to see her come to life. Dry brown grasslands turn lush and green and farmers are in full swing mode to ensure full productivity in their fields. India is the largest wholesale spice market so you also get to tickle your taste buds with their unique cuisine.
  3. The best time to travel to India in late October to end of April. During their summer, it gets very hot (May through November). The Monsoon rains begin in June in Central and the flat parts of Northern India. It can get as hot as 45 to 50 degrees Celsius. This doesn’t mean you can’t take part in outdoor activities. In fact, it is a great time to go mountain climbing!
  4. Great places to escape the heat are Wayanad, Munnar, The Kkady, Coorg, Ooty, and Connor. Due to their high altitude, the weather right then is perfect. It would be best to avoid the coastlines during the rainy season as the weather is quite humid. The beach is not the place to be as the strong wind currents are at their peak and swimming would be dangerous.
  5. During this time, it would be best to head to the Himalayas or the North East part of India. You can visit the spiritual City of Rishikesh which is near the banks of the Holy River Ganga. This was where the Dalai Lama was once exiled in Dharamsala. Did you know that Yoga originated in India and has been in existence for 5000years?
  6. You can also visit British stations like Shimla or Darjeeling. While on this side, you get to see the Western Ghats, a 1600km long mountain range which was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are also a lot of national parks, wildlife sanctuaries for different endangered species and forest reserves.
  7. Another major attraction is Rajasthan, Agra, home to the TajMahal, Goa, and Kerala. Tourist season starts from November to the beginning of March because of the moderate temperatures in South and Central India. If you plan to visit around this time, book 3 months in advance to get the best hotels and easy access to reservations.
  8. Few Indian festivals are reason enough to want to visit; for example, Diwali. This is the festival of lights and is usually in October or beginning of November.

Did you know that the national symbol for India is the endangered Bengal Tiger? This is the only one place you will get to see it. Pack your bags and come experience India.
