Welcome to our series on Unique Holidays: May 18th, 2021. Check out the Holidays and let me know which one you most would like to celebrate and why.
If you have boys do they attend the Boy’s Club? For a while Charlie did through his school and he even attended a week long day Camp. But then he got tired of Boy Scouts and quit.
Boys and Girls Club Day celebrates the invaluable Boy’s Clubs and Girl’s Clubs around the country. There are clubs all over America providing safe recreational activities for our youth. These clubs teach values and citizenship and they help to keep kids out of trouble and off of the street.
This is a day to recognize the importance of these groups for our children and to the community. With more and more parents at work, and broken families, these groups take on added importance.
You can celebrate Boys Club and Girl’s Club Day in a variety of ways:
- Learn about your local Boy’s and Girl’s clubs
- Encourage your children to join them
- As parents and adults, volunteer your time
- Make a donation
- If there is no club in your area, play a role in starting one.
World Plant a Vegetable Garden Day
As the old saying goes….. “Give a man some vegetables, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man how to grow a vegetable garden, and you feed his whole family for life!”
It’s a hungry world and Famine affects millions upon millions of people. If everyone had even a small garden, there would be fewer people suffering from starvation.
For the average person, having a Vegetable garden, helps save money on the family food budget. People who grow some or all of their own Vegetables often do so Organically, or at least with less of those harmful chemical Insecticides, Herbicides and Fertilizers. Hmmm? Giving you healthier food for your children? Isn’t that a great reason to start a Vegetable Garden?
If your looking for ideas on where to plant your garden? Millions upon millions of people are already gardening in amazing places. Backyard gardens are what normally comes to mind.
Urban community gardens also abound and in urban environments, vacant lots are often used (always ask the owner first if you can use the property). People grow gardens in containers and pots on balconies, decks, and patios. Apartment rooftops can be a great place for your new garden.
Participation in this day is fun and easy. Join in the fun hobby of gardening. By starting a Vegetable (or Flower or Herb) garden. If your already a gardener, encourage someone to start their very first garden.
Start the Garden small, making it easy to handle and less like a chore. Chances are, you will make your garden larger in future years, as you grow your gardening expertise.
I had thought of starting a Vegetable Garden this year but with the money we put into the Flowers it didn’t happen. Plus, the yard wasn’t ready for a Garden.
Which is fine because I have all year to gather the items we will need for our garden and to prepare the yard. Charlie can even research which Vegetables would grow well in our area for Homeschool.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
