It’s Saturday, and time for Homeschool Resources Foreign Languages. I would like to ask you to check out these Recommended Website: If you have used these resources what did you think of them and why. TravLang Age Range: 10-18 (Grades 5-12, with parental supervision) This ad-supported website is a find for those who have an interest in many languages or who want to try out different languages – in an effort to figure out which one they would like to study in more depth. When you get to the site, scroll down past the ads until you see “Follow the 2 Steps Below.” Enter the language you speak, and then click on a flag of a country with the language you want to speak – you’ll find everything from Afrikaans to Zulu here. Once you click on a Flag, a new page opens with a menu that offers you a selection of vocabulary lessons. It includes: Basic Words, Numbers, Shopping/Dining, Terms Travel Terminology, Directions Places Time and Dates. Use the radio buttons to select a topic, click submit, and a new page opens with a vocabulary list of words and some short phrases. Click on the words or phrases and you can hear them pronounced. Once you’ve learned the words, take a quick quiz, located on the same page, to see how much you remember. Again, this is a great way to get some exposure to another language – or to learn some quick words and phrases that might help you get by if you plan to visit a foreign country. Kids may just be fascinated to find out how to say “I do not understand,” in over 60 languages. |
