5 Signs That Your Teenager Is Suffering from a Drug Addiction

5 Signs That Your Teenager Is Suffering from a Drug Addiction You Should Watch Out for

As children grow up and reach that teenage age, it becomes difficult to bond with them. As they undergo both biological and physiological changes, they tend to feel like they know better. Some conflict may arise because of this.

It is an age where every parent worries and is continuously on the lookout. Differentiating adolescent behavior might be hard. From addictive behavior.

Accusing them of something they are not doing may be catastrophic. If they are addicts, If they are addicts, it might be time to look into rehab for drug addiction.. Before that, here are signs you should watch out for:

  1. Withdrawal

Teenage age may be a time when your child stops telling you things because they feel misunderstood. They may withdraw and keep to themselves because of this. That is pretty normal. However, you should get worried if the withdrawal goes beyond borders, for example, if they ultimately stop talking to you or do not want to be touched or get unnecessarily upset if you move their things. That might be a sign that all is not well and you need to act.

2. Disrespect

If your child suddenly becomes blatantly disrespectful to you and all those around them for no particular reason, look into it. Disrespect should be especially worrying if they don’t seem remorseful after you confront their behavior. Your confrontation and reprimand met with more disrespect. You may be sitting on a ticking time bomb.

3. Drastic mood swings

During that pubescent age, mood swings are pretty normal with hormonal changes and all. However, if your teenager seems to be a ball of moods that you have to walk on egg shells around because you don’t know when you might set them off, be careful. Considering it is your home, you need to be able to talk freely. Your child’s addictions may be the reason why they are unbearable to be around. They may have certain highs then crash with tantrums. Those may be the effects of the drugs.

4. Aggressive

This could come in form of words or physical brutality. Your teenager may be into drugs if they are suddenly displaying signs of aggression they never had. The aggression incidents could be random and occurring frequently but with little or no provocation. Something small may make them really mad, causing them to break dishes around the house or get into fights with classmates, family or any other person. Check that out and find out what’s wrong.

5. Being vague and lying

When your child starts lying about their whereabouts to the extent of going to crazy lengths to keep their tracks covered, there may be trouble. Teenagers are prone to being dodgy about their whereabouts but drug addicts take it to a whole new level. If you ask them, they may end up being extremely vague or use quarreling as a way of deflection. They may even guilt trip you into dropping the whole thing. Make sure you know where your child is at all times.
